Bayer Leverkusen got off to an awful start to the season, losing three straight games but have started to turn their season around. Leverkusen won their second straight game to climb out of the Bundesliga basement. On Saturday, Leverkusen host Borussia Dortmund at BayArena. Dortmund are coming off of an incredibly impressive performance, demolishing Nurnberg 7-0.

Kevin Volland scored twice in Leverkusen’s win over Dusseldorf on Wednesday. After scoring a career best 14 goals last season, Volland is looking to build on his success. Despite struggling to start the season, Leverkusen have one of the most talented attacking fronts in Germany. Volland often plays through the middle with Julian Brandt and Leon Bailey on the wing. Both Brandt and Bailey scored nine goals last season and continue to get better and attract the attention of bigger clubs. Perhaps the best player on Leverkusen is Kai Havertz. At 19-years-old, Havertz is considered the brightest young talent in the Bundesliga and the future of the German national team. Havertz will lineup behind the striker in Heiko Herrlich’s starting XI.

Borussia Dortmund played their best game of the season on Wednesday, smashing Nurnberg 7-0. Marco Reus was excellent on Wednesday scoring twice and adding an assist. Reus looked significantly more comfortable playing behind Maximilian Philipp. With the game Saturday and Champions League returning on Wednesday, Lucien Favre decided to rotate his squad against Nurnberg. Favre rotate almost his entire squad. Regulars such as Jadon Sancho, Mahmoud Dahoud, Lukasz Piszczek and Abdou Diallo will likely start against Leverkusen to allow Favre to keep his squad fresh for Wednesday’s game against Monaco.
