One of the best ways to try to beat the Fantasy Football waiver wire is to pick up a player for next week on Saturday and we’re here with some suggestions!

We’re always trying to improve our game for fantasy football and this week is going to start a column with suggestions of players who might be popular on the Waiver Wire this upcoming week. Now, that obviously can’t include any scenarios that arise from injuries on Sunday but that doesn’t mean you can’t turn the last spot on your bench this week into a jump-start on next week! The Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are on bye this week so folks may need replacements for those players. Let’s see who can help your team moving forward into Week 5!

*All stats are accurate as of Saturday, September 29th before Week 4 games

Alex Smith, Washington Redskins – at New Orleans Saints

I could probably just limit this to “He plays the Saints” but we’ll go a little deeper than that. True, Smith hasn’t been nearly as effective in Washington as he was last year in Kansas City but the Saints have given up the most points to quarterbacks and are allowing the highest passer rating in football. This defense is in shambles and the offense for New Orleans is likely to keep scoring with the return of Mark Ingram. That forces teams like the Redskins to pass even more and Smith is actually not having a bad season so far. His yards per attempt is the exact same and his passing yards per game is only down by 15 yards. He just needs some touchdowns and this are likely to come this week in New Orleans. He’s a really solid replacement for anyone who’s been playing Ryan Fitzpatrick or is worried about matchups for their quarterback.

Keelan Cole, Jacksonville Jaguars – at Kansas City Chiefs

Plenty of folks jumped off Cole after his mediocre week against the Titans and even if he remains quiet against the Jets, the matchup is tantalizing for Week 5. Jacksonville travels to Kansas City in one of the more anticipated matchups on the season. The Chiefs offense squaring off against the mighty Jaguars defense is going to be fascinating but regardless of that, Cole gets the Chiefs defense which has allowed the most passing yards in football. In addition, Kansas City has given up eight passing touchdowns and the eighth most points to receivers. Cole is the big play receiver and has seen eight and nine targets the past two weeks. I’ll take that all day long against the Chiefs secondary.

Vance McDonald/Austin Hooper, Pittsburgh Steelers/Atlanta Falcons

These two tight ends are very low owned and the Falcons travel to Pittsburgh next week in what will likely have one of the highest over/unders of the week. Both defenses are flat out poor and both offenses are absolutely awesome. Neither McDonald or Hooper are the main cog in their respective offense, but they both are seeing 4/5 targets each week when they’re healthy. If this game shoots out like it should. we could see both tight ends find the end zone. The Steelers are especially egregious against the position, giving up the second most points this season.

Nyheim Hines, Indianapolis Colts – at New England Patriots

This remains a deeper league special, but it stands to reason that the Colts are going to be trailing on the road in New England. If they are, Andrew Luck could turn to Hines plenty of times as the back is seeing a target share slightly over 12 percent. Running back is pretty ugly out there right now but Hines isn’t owned by virtually anyone and Hines saw over 70 percent of the snaps in Week 3. He could see a lot of the field and remains involved in a much-needed passing game. We’ve seen the New England linebackers struggle recently so this could be a big day for Hines.

Ty Montgomery, Green Bay Packers – at Detroit Lions

On the surface, this would appear to be chasing the seven targets Montgomery saw in Week 3 but the Packers were in a negative game script. However, Randall Cobb is likely not going to play in Week 4 with a hamstring injury. Montgomery would be a prime candidate to play the role that Cobb has, which is the lowest aDOT among the three receivers of the Packers. I would be lying if I said I know that to be the case exactly. If that is the case and Montgomery sees 8+ targets again, he’s going to be very popular come Wednesday.

Taiwan Taylor, Tennessee Titans – at Buffalo Bills

This one is purely speculation, but Richard Matthews is no longer with the team. Delanie Walker is on the injured reserve. Someone other that Corey Davis and Dion Lewis have to catch the ball and the Titans offense should be getting better as Marcus Mariota gets healthy. Taylor has seen his snaps rise every single week so far and is third among the team in targets. It’s been a low volume attack so far but if Taylor explodes, you’re a leg up on your entire league.
