Loser: Stanford Cardinal (No. 7 down to No. 14)

Sorry, Stanford, you missed a big opportunity on Saturday night. Heading to South Bend for a showdown with No. 8 Notre Dame, the Cardinal wanted to prove that they were serious national title contenders, but they looked like anything but that.

The game was tied at 14 early on, but the Cardinal had a hard time keeping up with the Irish’s newfound potent offense, led by Ian Book.

Notre Dame went on a 24-3 run to end the game, looking like a serious title contender in its own right while the Cardinal were sent home with their tails between their legs.

David Shaw must get back to the drawing board and figure out what went wrong against the Irish, fixing it before conference plays rears up yet again.

Fresh off a huge road win over Oregon in overtime, this is the last result Stanford expected and the Cardinal dropped out of the top-10 because of the blowout loss in South Bend. What do we even make of this team?
