The Los Angeles Dodgers and Colorado Rockies couldn’t determine a winner in 162 games. They need a tiebreaker to determine the winner of the NL West.

Fans of intense, October baseball are in for a real treat. The Rockies and Dodgers are going to give fans one extra game of intense, postseason baseball. The two teams finished in a tie atop the NL West and now will require a one game playoff to determine the division’s winner.

Each club finished the regular season with identical records of 91-71. The Dodgers will host the deciding game on Monday. The winner will enter the playoffs as the NL West champion while the loser will still make the postseason as the wild card team. Of course, that means the loser has to face another one game playoff for the right to advance to the Division Round.

The Rockies will head into the game feeling like the have momentum on their side. They’ll enter the game having won 10 of their last 11 regular season games. There’s considerable talk in the Mile High City that destiny might be on this team’s side.

On the other hand, the Dodgers can take comfort in the fact that they swept the Rockies at home just before Colorado went on their terrific winning streak. The team will also gain confidence from their ability to play the deciding game in front of their home fans. Playing at home doesn’t guarantee a Dodgers victory, but they will certainly like their chances.

The one thing fans can absolutely bank on is the fact that it’ll be a tense affair. Neither team is going to want to back into the Wild Card game. Advancing straight into the Division Round is a huge prize. The loser of this game will still keep their World Series hopes alive, but their chances will take a big hit.
