3. Cameron Brate

There was definitely some palpable buzz about Brate during the preseason, but O.J. Howard’s emergence knocked him out of the Buccaneers offense. Fortunately for Brate, Howard is due to hit the bench for two to four weeks with a sprained MCL.

It’s worth noting that Brate also has solid chemistry with Jameis Winston. His insertion back into the Tampa Bay lineup also should provide the former Harvard tight end with an uptick in value. Winston likes to throw the ball deep down the seam and that’s where Brate likes to operate.

While we really like Brate as a free agent add this week, he is not someone you should use a high waiver claim on. When Howard gets back on the field, Brate will almost certainly head back to the bench. The Buccaneers front office really believes in their former first round pick. Brate would need to blow up over the next few weeks to relegate Howard to the bench.

He is, however, a great player to add when free agency hits. For Howard owners he’s an obvious add. Brate is also a worthy consideration for Dissly owners. He’s only a guy who will help you for the next few weeks, but he could help you get a couple of valuable wins in that time frame.
