ESPN College Pick Em Picks Week 6 2018: Michigan’s defense should dominate

I had a strong week, only missing one pick. It was my six pointer, but I still ended up with 49 points. That still wasn’t enough to have the best week in the Fantasy CPR reader’s group, but I did gain some ground.

If you would like to get in on the fun, join this group and compete head to head with the writers at Fantasy CPR and with fans like yourself! It’s not too late to join!

More from College Football Odds

My 49 point week was good enough for a three way tie for second this week with Protege 21242 and BKNoleGirl. Ernie had the best week anyone could have with our first perfect 55 point week of the season. Way to go Ernie!

Brian Prete still leads the way with 210 points, but it’s getting tight at the top. Jay_da_gr8_1 is now just one point behind. Protege’s big week moved him into third place, just two points behind Brian. Ernie’s perfect week leaves him in fourth, just three points back. BKNoleGirl is in fifth, but just four points out of first. I vaulted up five spots into sixth place, six points behind first. mnsooners, Brandon8736, earleyca, and mdaallen round out the top ten, but only nine points separate ninth from first!

Again, there were no clean sweeps, but 24 out of 25 of us took TCU this week. 23 of us also went with Washington. Congratulations are due to mdaallen, ccloud05, and Ernie, the only three to pick Florida in StarkVegas.

These picks will be for the confidence version of the game, where you assign a point value from 1-10 based on how confident you are in each pick. I will publish mine here each week. If I make a change, I will just amend the original article.

We are already a third of the way through the pick em season! Let’s start in on the second third!

(1) Kentucky over Texas A&M:

There are overwhelming favorites so far in every game but this one. Why? Kentucky is on the road against a very dangerous A&M team. I could see Kentucky losing this game. I could also see them winning this. I said last week that something feels different about this team than in previous seasons. We will find out here if it really is different.

(2) Oklahoma State over Iowa State:

The Cyclones are playing everyone tough. Eventually they are going to pick off one of these Big 12(10) heavyweights. This would look like the prime place. The only thing that has me off of Iowa State is that their secondary blows a few coverages here and there. If Cornelius can find them this week, it will be enough for the Cowboys, but this is also going to be closer than the experts think again.

(3) Colorado over Arizona State:

The Ralphies have had some trouble with the deep ball this year, but Manny Wilkens has had some trouble hitting it. Still, this Colorado offense has explosive wideouts, something they lacked last year. I don’t see anyone for Sparky that can cover Chenault.

(4) Notre Dame over Virginia Tech:

No Josh Jackson? No problem! If Virginia Tech plays like they did last week, they can win this game. The problems in the secondary that were exploited by Old Dominion were partially patched up, but also partially overshadowed by Duke’s lack of a solid long range passing attack. Notre Dame doesn’t have that problem. The Irish will break a couple of big ones here. That likely decides the game.

(5) Boise State over San Diego State:

The Aztecs can’t throw to win, and they would have to here. Boise’s offense is better than it has been in a while, and the defense is pretty good too. Good enough to run the table in the Mountain West.

(6) LSU over Florida:

LSU doesn’t really look like a top five team to me, so this one could move down the list. Still, Florida has serious issues moving the ball against average defenses. LSU is going to completely shut them down. That Florida D is going to give LSU all they can handle, but the Florida offense will make too many costly mistakes that the defense can’t bail them out of.

(7) Louisiana Tech over UAB:

Louisiana Tech’s win over North Texas last week impressed the hell out of me. J’Mar Smith is just another in what is becoming a long line of very good Bulldog quarterbacks. Smith is picking up where Cody Sokol, Jeff Driskel, and Ryan Higgins left off. Smith is the kind of guy that can take over a game. That’s what will happen here.

(8) Oklahoma over Texas:

Strange things can happen in the Red River Shootout, and something strange will happen at some point in this game. The thing that really stands out to me here is Texas’ lack of a strong running game. That should make the difference, but Oklahoma has trouble with running quarterbacks, which Sam Ehlinger is. This is going to be closer than the experts think, but I still think Oklahoma pulls it out.

(9) Auburn over Mississippi State:

The Bulldogs really are a mess right now. This offense can’t handle the strong defenses of the SEC. While there may be some questions about the Auburn offense, the defense has been as advertised. This is likely going to be another single digit offensive output for the Bulldogs. That isn’t going to cut it against Auburn.

(10) Michigan over Maryland:

This Michigan defense is just nasty. Maryland is going to have issues getting anything going here. The Michigan offense has yet to do anything really impressive, but any way you look at it, the loss of Wilton Speight is a win. Patterson may or may not be the answer, but he isn’t going to give games away while the Wolverines try to find out.
