Fantasy Football: Week 5 Lock Plays
By Shaun Evans
Hey guys! Week 5 is approaching and after a disappointing Week 4 Fantasy Football Lock Plays, my apologies, we’re going to bounce back strong! So lets dive into it!
Recap of Week 4 “Lock Plays”:
Lets start out with the only Fantasy Football player to actually show up this week! Ezekiel Elliott came through with a strong showing like we expected with 37 points! Tom Brady came in with 20.96 which is somewhat disappointing and then Keenan Allen only put up 13.3 against the San Francisco 49ers. Allen’s teammate, Antonio Gates put up 10.7 and then came the biggest disappointment of them all, Odell Beckham Jr. who finished with just 14 points. Overall a disappointing week so lets dive into Week 5 and make a major comeback.
Melvin Gordon III
Salary: Draftkings: $8,600 | Fanduel: $8,700
Melvin Gordon III has gone unnoticed to an extent this fantasy football season while Todd Gurley is getting a lot of attention. Gordon has been very consistent in a boring San Diego Chargers offense and now they get to face the Oakland Raiders who rank 30th in rushing defense. The Raiders have given up a hundred yards rushing to three different running-backs already this season. While Melvin Gordon is getting most of his points on the ground, he’s also getting it done through the air. Phillip Rivers is utilizing his backfield the proper way with Melvin Gordon III and Austin Ekeler but that takes away some points from Gordon. Ekeler may be in use for some drivers and possibly a touchdown, but Gordon still gets his touches and his touch-downs.
Salary: Draftkings: $7,700 | Fanduel: $8,300
Coming in at a very reasonable flex price, Adam Thielen deserves all the hype! While only seeing the end-zone twice this season, he has posted 19.2, 34.1, 27.5, and 30.5 in his first four games something we can’t overlook. Thielen is the 6th highest priced receiver and possibly the best match-up against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles have only allowed two receivers to go over a hundred yards receiving but multiple receiver have only been off by around ten yards. If Thielen doesn’t see the end-zone, his receptions make up for it, with two games already with double digit catches and a very high percentage of catching whatever is thrown at him. Having Diggs taking some attention off of him brings his upside even higher heading into Week 5.
Salary: Draftkings: $9,100 | Fanduel: $9,000
Heading into Week 5, the entire Pittsburgh offense could be in play but it’s also time to lock in Antonio Brown. Brown hasn’t had the season that we really expected so far but many things have been questioned about this team. Not paying off his salary, Brown gets to face the Atlanta Falcons who rank 25th in passing defense. The Falcons have also given up a hundred yards in the passing game to five different receivers. This screams a prime spot for Antonio Brown and the Pittsburgh offense. Also Antonio Brown has seen the end-zone in 3 of their first 4 games also so don’t be afraid with this match-up.

Sticking with the same game but on the opposite offense, Matt Ryan is in play. Only having one bad week, opening week on Thursday Night Football, Matt Ryan has shown up and put the numbers up. The Pittsburgh Steelers rank 30th in passing defense and have given up on average 304 yards through the air. Ryan has also made a new friend to create fireworks with and that’s Calvin Ridley, who has helped Ryan put up the points he has. Given Ryan Fitzpatrick 3 interception game, the Steelers have only snagged 2 other interceptions which is another positive to look at when locking up Matt Ryan. There is confusion on both sides for the Steelers, offense and defense, giving Matt Ryan the “lock in” title.
Salary: Draftkings: $5,400 | Fanduel: $6,400
Another week and another tight end has made his way onto the “Lock Plays” list. George Kittle, who may be C.J. Beathard‘s best friend, has another prime match-up with the Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals don’t give up many yards through the air, only allowing 235 yards per game so far. But Kittle put up incredible numbers last week with 125 receiving yards and a touchdown, which was his first. But Kittle was the only receiver that Beathard looked comfortable throwing too and when he replaced Jimmy G on the final drive of Week 3, Kittle is who he hit in the end-zone, a play which was called back. Look for Kittle to be highly used once again this weekend going in to face the Arizona Cardinals.
