Last week’s episode, titled “The Wedding Gift Wormhole,” brought in around 12 million viewers. At less than one million viewers short of the season premiere ratings, this is a fantastic sign for the remainder of the twelfth season — especially after the significant drop from season 11 to 12 had some worried.
It is very early, but, if this season can maintain those numbers, I could see a spin-off for The Big Bang Theory happening down the road. Sure, Young Sheldon is technically a spin-off, but the series could theoretically continue along fine with fewer characters – or even perhaps new ones.
There is no reason for a series this popular to end just because Jim Parsons wants to leave. CBS needs to let him leave and keep this cash cow going for as long as it can; otherwise, the network is leaving guaranteed week to week views on the table.
