Impactful NFL DFS Injuries: Week 5

With extensive coverage of the National Football League and how it pertains to fantasy sports, information about NFL DFS Injuries to skill position players is easy to come by. What’s not so easy to come by is actionable fantasy information regarding injuries to non-skill position players. We’ll be exploring some of the NFL DFS Injuries and how they may help you gain an edge week to week.

Grady Jarrett – DT – ATL

Yet again, the Atlanta defense suffers a massive loss, as they’ll now be without Grady Jarrett.  Jarrett exited last week with an ankle injury, and he has since been ruled out for the week five matchup with the Steelers.

Actionable Takeaway: Jarrett ranks 8th out of 113 qualifying interior defensive lineman on PFF, through four weeks. He’s been having a great start to the year, and while this injury alone is huge, it becomes even more of a loss, given the laundry list of injuries to the entire Atlanta defense.

This game has a very good chance of shooting out, and I love James Conner to bounce back this week as he should have an advantageous matchup, both on the ground, and through the air.

Earl Thomas – S – SEA

The new look Seattle defense will now be without their backbone, Earl Thomas, as he is done for the year with a broken left leg.

Actionable Takeaway: Earl Thomas was PFF’s number one ranked safety, and was considered for many years, the “glue” that held this defense together. It’s a big loss and things wont get any easier, as Sean McVay and the Rams roll into town. The total on this game has already moved up a full two points, and I would expect the Ram’s to face little resistance when moving the ball down the field. I’ll be loading up on shares of Todd Gurley in all formats.

Nate Hariston, Kenny Moore, Quincy Wilson – DBs – IND

The Indianapolis Colts will be severely handicapped on both sides of the ball on Thursday night, but while the offensive injuries will get everyone’s attention, it’s important to note the defensive injuries. It has already been announced that both Kenny Moore and Quincy Wilson will miss this week’s game with concussions. Nate Hairston is also in danger of missing, as he only got in a limited practice on Wednesday.

Actionable Takeaway: While the Colt’s defense has been an unexpected surprise, this cluster of injuries may be tough to overcome, especially when facing the Patriots in Foxborough. The Patriots will get Julian Edelman back this week, and while I am concerned with how effective he can be coming off of the injury, the offense should be able to get whatever they want against multiple backups. I would expect both James White and Sony Michael to have big days, as well as the rest of the offense.

Note: Standout LB, Darius Leonard is also in danger of missing this game.
