NHL DFS Man Advantage 10/4
By Matt Vecchio
Welcome to NHL DFS Man Advantage. Tonight we have a huge 10 game slate. After a small 4 game slate to open the season we get a full night of NHL action on the second night of the season. There are a few teams already on the second night of a back to back ( Washington and Boston) and we get to see the debut on the top pick in this summers rookie draft, Rasmus Dahlin and the young Buffalo Sabres.
In this article I will attempt to give you a core of NHL DFS DraftKings players to build your lineups around as you get set for each nights slate. I will give you multiple goaltender choices for, one each for cash and GPP plays (sometimes more depending on slate size). I am going to give you individual players in tiers (High, Mid, Value) for both defenders and forwards and then lastly I will give you a couple of line stacks and possibly a game stack to target depending on the size of the slate.
As always make sure to follow me on Twitter @MVecchio81 and also follow @FantasyCPR to keep up to date on all the moves that happen throughout the day. NHL DFS Goalies
Cash games:
Pekka Rinne (Nsh)- Rinne and Predators start the season at MSG against the Rangers. While I don’t think the Rangers are going to be as bad as some people are predicting, they aren’t on the same level as the Predators right now. Rinne is one the leagues best goaltenders, as is his opponent tonight in King Henrik, and is the back bone of a team that is a favorite to win the Stanley Cup this season. Rinne is coming off an amazing season in which he won 42 games with 8 shutouts and a GAA of 2.31. Not that it has an effect on his play, but he also one of the coolest masks in all of hockey with his Iron Pred mask as a take on Iron Man.
Cam Ward (Chi) – After spending 13 years in Carolina signed with the Blackhawks this summer, where he will be Corey Crawford’s backup when Crawford finally gets healthy. He will be a very risky option over the course of the season, but if you can’t trust him against the Senators, you’ll never be able to trust him. Chicago is not going to be a very good team, but Ottawa will be worse, by a lot. There is not a lot to be scared of in the Senators lineup which is what makes me pick Ward as a possible cash game goalie.
Other options : Marc-Andre Fleury
GPP’s
Petr Mrazek ( Car) – While projected starter Scott Darling is out injured it will be Mrazek who gets the chance to start. Mrazek spent the majority of his career so far in Detroit, before being traded to the Flyers mid-season last year. For the first time in his career Mrazek is playing behind a possession heavy team which should lighten his shots against this season. Carolina is a much improved team taking on an Islander team that is an unknown to start the season after the departure of their long time star and with a new regime coming in.
Jonas Korpisalo (Cls) – Korpisalo is not the regular starter for Columbus but he gets the opening night start for the Blue Jackets as they play the first of back to backs to open the season. Korpisalo had a decent season in limited action last year. He finished the season with an 8-8 record and a GAA of 2.87.
NHL DFS Individual Skaters
Defense
Top tier
Dustin Byfuglien ( Wpg) – Byfuglien is not on the top d pair for Winnipeg but he is on the first pp unit. Last season was a down year by Byfuglien standards, mainly because he miss over 10 games with injury. In 69 games last season Byfuglien scored 8 goals and recorded 45 points. Winnipeg is a Cup favorite and looks to get their season started off right against the Blues Thursday night.
Other options : Roman Josi (Nsh), John Carlson (Was), PK Subban (Nsh)

Mid tier
Zach Werenski ( Cls) – In the absence of the injured Seth Jones, Werenski becomes the Blue Jackets top defenseman to start the season. Werenski scored 16 goals last season, he’s second in the league and also averaged over 22 minutes of ice time per game. As I mentioned, Seth Jones is injured which means Werenski will most likely see an uptick in his minutes to start the season as he opens up on the first D pair as well as the captain of the Blue Jackets power play
Other options: Kris Letang (Pit), Justin Faulk (Car), Oliver Ekman-Larsson (Ari)
Value tier
Jared Spurgeon (Min) – Jared Spurgeon is not a house hold name in the NHL, but he is a very talented offensive defenseman. Last season Spurgeon scored 9 goals and had 38 points, 13 of which came on the power play.
Opther options: Erik Johnson (Col), Rasmus Dahlin (Buf), Cody Ceci (Ott)
Forwards
Top tier
Sidney Crosby (Pit) – Crosby is obviously one on the best players in the league so it really shouldn’t take much for me to convince you roster him tonight. Crosby is playing on a line with Jake Guentzel and Patric Hornqvist to open the season which makes for a great line stack as well as any of the three as individual players. When the Penguins and the Capitals frequently have high scoring games. There is a good chance that the Penguins get to face the Capitals backup goalie in Phoenix Copley which could lead to a very high goal total for them
Other options : Mark Scheifele (Wpg), Evgeni Malkin (Pit), Jack Eichel (Buf), Jamie Benn (Dal), Vladimir Tarasenko (Stl)
Mid tier
Mark Stone (Ott) – Mark Stone scored 20+ goals for the 4th consecutive season last year and is one of the best players on the Sens roster. Ottawa will not score a ton this season but when they do Mark Stone will be one of their top point per game players. Stone gets 2nd line duty and first power play unit as well.
Other options : Jeff Skinner (Buf), Jaden Schwartz (Stl), Ryan Johansen (Nsh), Ryan O’Reilly (Buf)
Value tier
Alex DeBrincat (Chi) – DeBrincat had a breakout season last year recording 52 points and scoring 28 goals in his rookie season. DeBrincat plays on the Hawks first line with Jonathan Toews as well as the first power play unit. Last season DeBrincat was tied for the league lead in hat tricks with 3.
Other options : Josh Baily (NYI), Casey Mittelstadt (Buf)
NHL DFS Line Stacks
My favorite stack on the night is Colorado’s top line of Landeskog – MacKinnon – Rantanen. This combo played more minutes together last season than any other line combo in the entire league., that is something that you want to have with your line stack. In addition to being the top line all three play together on the Av’s first power play unit.
Next on my list of top lines is the Vegas Golden Knights second line of Pacioretty – Stasny – Haula. Two of the three of these players are brand new additions to the Knights and should be a very productive line this season. This line could take so time to gel early in the season, so I don’t know if I will stack all three together, but I might take a chance on 2 of them in gpp’s
Carolina is loaded with young talent and three of the best play together on their top line. The line of Zykov – Aho – Svechnikov have the potential to explode into one of the best lines in the entire NHL this season. Last season Sebastian Aho scored 29 goals, 8 of which cane on the PP, and Zykov played only 10 games but recorded 7 points in those games and Svechnikov is this years first round pick for Carolina.
