Fortnite Friday is a weekly review of what is going on in the world of Fortnite. We cover the battle pass challenges, new game modes and any update information you need to know.

Fortnite Friday is a weekly column covering everything happening around the popular 100-person multiplayer showdown game, Fortnite: Battle Royale. Week two of season 6 is underway and if the week 1 action was any indication of how this season is going to go, buckle up.

The biggest changes as the season switched over were the cube-fueled moving island from Loot Lake and the developing tunnel system through Wailing Woods. Both of these look as though they are going to be constantly changing with the updates (yes, I know that there’s also a castle above Haunted and if it wasn’t almost Halloween, there would be no reason to get excited about it).

This week also features a returning LTM and a fun new gaming series called Tuesday Night Fortnite featuring some of the NFL’s star players teaming up with streamers and competing in competitions for charity, brought to us by the good folks at Fanatics.

Before all of that fun stuff, let’s tackle the week 2 challenges. If you are still catching up on last week’s challenges, click here.

Free challenges

Visit all of the corrupted areas (0/7): You’ll notice the map is now littered with purple “corrupted areas” left behind from the cube’s path in season 5. These areas have a glowing rune, a few chests and are surrounded by death, and an eerie noise. They’re pretty easy to spot so there’s no need for a map here, just aim for the purple.

Use a shadow stone in different matches (0/3): Shadow stones can be round in the corrupted areas. They allow you to turn temporarily invisible and grant you the ability to move through walls. Though for me, they’ve only screwed me out of a trap kill as an apparent glitch allowed another player to step right into my trap untouched and shoot me. Yeah, I’m bitter. Find these stones while you are completing the first challenge.

Stage 1: Deal damage with standard assault rifle to opponents (0/200): This multi-staged weapon challenge is simple enough. Be sure to check back after the first weapon to find out what you need to use next.

Battle pass challenges

Eliminate an opponent from at least 50m away (0/1): Epic Games is really pushing the use of sniper rifles lately, which is probably good for players like me who are so terrible that they avoid using them altogether.

Deal damage with pistols to opponents (0/500): This is arguably the hardest challenge this week. Try to use the dual pistols (or dualies, as the kids say) or the hand cannon (or deagle, as the kids say) as these weapons dish out more damage.

SMG eliminations (0/3): Simple enough. Most players should be carrying an SMG anyway.

Stage 1: Deal damage with hunting rifles to opponents (0/200): Uhh, redundant much? We already have two challenges of this nature this week in the sniper eliminations and the previous staged challenge. Have no fear, Epic is probably saving up all of the fun stuff for Halloween week.

Update v6.01 patch notes and current LTMs

New “chiller” trap: The chiller trap comes in groups of 3 and can be set like a regular trap on walls, floors or ceilings. The trap gives opponents blocks of ice on their feet, lessening friction and making it extremely difficult to move around. These aren’t a game changer by any means, but they are pretty fun.

LTMs: Playground mode and Soaring 50s are the two currently LTMs available to play. If you still haven’t played around in playground mode, squad up with some friends and give it a shot. It’s actually pretty entertaining if you have a bit of an imagination. There are also a handful of custom mini games you can try out.

Tuesday Night Fortnite presented by Fanatics

As previously mentioned above, every Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. ET on Twitch.tv/FYBtv will feature prominent NFL players and Fortnite streamers competing for charity. The event kicked off last week with Eagles running back Jay Ajayi and Giants tight end Evan Engram and it was a ton of fun.

Each week will feature two players who are set to face off in the following week’s Thursday Night Football game. It’s a great way to interact with the players and streamers and get to know your favorite NFL stars.

Keep an eye on the FanSided gaming page and/or my Twitter feed to find out who will be competing each week.

Elimination of the Week

This week’s EOTW comes for @PuVile and if you would have shown me this video two weeks ago, I would have asked you what weird pirated custom version of Fortnite you were playing.

If you come across anything we might have missed or have any ideas on what should be included in these posts in the future, hit me on Twitter @TheRealBruin. Until next week!
