As a result, the Basque club sit sixth in the table and have a chance to go level on points with Real Madrid if they manage an upset on Saturday. Its an extraordinary start to the season and a real validation of the hard work done by manager, Aberlardo Fernandez who has overseen the club’s upturn in form since he took over last November with the club languishing at the bottom of table with just six points from 13 games. Since then, they have only lost ten times under the former Barcelona defender a streak of form that secured top flight status last season and has them as unlikely contenders for Europe this season.
If Alaves want to make it third time lucky and go momentary joint top of the table with Real Madrid and Barcelona, they will really need to upset the odds. In their previous six meetings, the captial side have triumphed in all six, conceding just two goals and scoring an average of three.
