Texas and Florida giving Oklahoma and LSU their first losses of the season were two of the biggest storylines of the college football weekend.
The number of undefeated teams dropped by three with Oklahoma, LSU and Kentucky suffering their first loss of the season.
Three is the magic number, because there were three teams ranked in the top 10 all lost with No. 8 Auburn joining No. 5 LSU and No. 7 Oklahoma in the loss column. Next weekās AP Top 25 is sure to see UCF move into the top 10 after extending the nationās longest win streak to 18 after a convincing win over SMU.
Big wins from Texas and Florida to beat Oklahoma and LSU, respectively, will see both programs fall somewhere just outside the top 10. Colorado should be another team making a big move up the Top 25 as the Pac-12ās only undefeated team. The Buffs improved to 5-0 with a seven-point win over Arizona State.
Overall, this was a weekend that saw the best of the best continue to play like that as Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, Clemson and Notre Dame had convincing wins. Meanwhile, Michigan State may have established themselves as the biggest disappointment in the country after losing to Northwestern to drop to 3-2.
The biggest takeaway for every Top 25 team after Week 6
1. Alabama ā The Crimson Tide rolled up 65 points in the win over Arkansas as Tua Tagovailoa went 10 of 13 for 334 yards and four touchdowns and has yet to throw an interception. But not all was perfect as the defense allowed 31 points and a 100-yard rusher so Nick Saban will have something to yell about at practice this week.
2. Georgia ā Another ho-hum win for the Dawgs who will finally be tested next week at LSU. Or so, I think they will be tested, but I get the sense that Georgia has waited to show off just how good they can be against these inferior opponents. I donāt know how good Georgia is yet, but next week will be telling if theyāve got the chops to hang with Alabama in a potential (likely) SEC Championship Game.
3. Ohio State ā Dwayne Haskins just keeps getting better with every game. Haskins tossed a career-high 455 yards and six touchdowns in the 49-26 win over Indiana. Parris Campbell was his favorite target with nine catches for 142 yards and a pair of scores. I donāt think any team in the Big Ten is capable of beating this team. Theyāre going to the Playoff.
4. Clemson ā After sweating out last weekās win over Syracuse, Clemson wasted little time putting away Wake Forest. The Tigers jumped out to a 28-0 halftime lead and led 49-3 after three quarters to allow the starters to take the fourth quarter off. Trevor Lawrence looked great after he was knocked out of the game last week and Travis Etienne added 167 yards and three touchdowns on only 10 carries. If he plays like this the rest of the way, no one in the ACC can touch Clemson.
5. LSU ā Joe Burrow had his first bad game with LSU and it led to the Tigers losing for the first time this season. There just wasnāt enough offense but Burrowās pick-six in the closing minutes was enough to sink their chances of escaping The Swamp with a win. LSU has Georgia next week so they canāt get too down or else theyāll be suffering from back-to-back losses.
