Fantasy Football: FanDuel DFS Optimal Lineup for Week Five
By Rob Wilson
FanDuel DFS Picks for Week Five – Cash Games
My apologies for not getting the week four lineup out last week on our website. I had a personal matter that came up very abruptly. I appreciate everyone who reached out on Twitter asking for the FanDuel DFS lineup because it reminded me how important it is to me to help you guys cash. I wanted to give a personal thank you to a few of you who wished me well and let me know everyone went 4/4 using the lineup I tweeted out. This may sound like a self plug but that’s a perfect example of why you should throw me a follow (@TheFFGator). If for some reason I can’t get out the full article I will happily tweet it out to those of you who ask for it. Below is a running tab of the last three weeks and good luck to everyone during week five.
Week One total: 161.9 FD points (Cashed in 100% of contests)
Week Two Total: 134.28 FD points (Cashed in 90% of contests)
Week Three Total: 173.4 FD points (Cashed in 100% of contests)
FanDuel Cash Game Lineup – Week Five
Quarterback – Matt Stafford – $7,600
The whole world will be calling for Matt Ryan and Ben Roethlisberger this Sunday and for good reason. It wouldn’t be a bad option to go with one of those two, but the point of this article is the optimal strategy. We want to minimize risk and maximize floor.
The quarterback position is the spot you can afford to pay down at because the differences between the elite performers and the ones with great matchups are often razor-thin. Pat Mahomes continued the legendary beginning to his career last week in primetime against Denver, but still only ended the week as the QB11. It’s easy to spot value in daily fantasy and it allows you to have a few extra dollars to spend elsewhere when you need it the most.
This week we will turn to another veteran gunslinger that faces a Green Bay defense surrendering over 300 yards a game. This one could easily turn into a shootout as both offenses are high-powered and both defensive units are suspect at best. Stafford will be a very safe floor option that will allow you to get some studs into your lineup at other positions.
FanDuel DFS Picks for Week Five – Running Backs
Melvin Gordon-$8,700
I think I’ll just leave MG3 in here as my RB1 every time he’s playing. He’s basically Todd Gurley but at a discounted price. He has as high of a floor as any running back in the league in the rushing department, he’s the solidified goal line back on a good offense, and he’s involved in the passing game a lot more than most people realize.
Gordon has more targets through four weeks than AJ Green, Allen Robinson and Emmanuel Sanders. Unless the unspeakable happens in the injury department this weekend he’s a lock to return his value. Having Gordon in cash game lineups is like betting the over in any New Orleans Saints game: it’s a lock.
James Conner – $7,800
The Steelers and the Falcons square off this weekend and I can promise you this won’t be the only player from that contest in our lineup. The over/under is set at 57.5 which feels way too low and I want ever piece of that game that I can get. Both teams are ranked in the top ten in terms of offensive production and both have defenses that rank in the bottom ten. That’s really all you need to know. The only question is: which guys?
Enter James Conner. You know, the bona fide DUDE that took off in week one and had us all asking Le’Veon who?
Things have slowed down since then and it’s reasonable to be a little worried about him as a cash game pick but the fact remains he’s very involved in the offense and won’t be a victim to game script. He gets enough work in the passing game to remain relevant on every down for four quarters. He’ll need to find the end zone to return value but that should be as close to a lock as it gets. Don’t overthink this. Starting running back + shootout = easy choice.
FanDuel DFS Picks for Week Five – Wide Receivers
Julio Jones– $8,800
I told you….. this game will be a DFS feast. Julio is leading the league in receiving yards and gets targeted the way someone of his talent should be targeted. Some people are worried about the usage Calvin Ridley has seen so far. Don’t be one of them. Ridley is a great player and won’t be going anywhere but Julio is the alpha dog in an offense that can support a whole kennel of pit bulls.
Jones is the WR7 overall and hasn’t even found the end zone. He’s still safe if this trend continues and if it doesn’t…. watch out. A lot of people will be playing Ridley but all trends point to the regression department there, so take advantage of that and watch the points rack up.
Kenny Golladay – $6,300
Will someone let me know who makes the decision on pricing at FanDuel? I need to send them a polite email with Kenny Golladay’s stat lines from the first quarter of the season and have the subject line read ‘$.
Golladay is ranked in the top twenty at his position and has scored double-digit fantasy points in every week thus far, including at least sixteen points in three of them. He’s already the second option on a team that plays catch up more times than not, and this week will be more of the same. Any team lining up against Aaron Rodgers will have to air it out to keep it close, and history tells us Matt Stafford has no issue doing just that. Golladay is a high floor, low ceiling option that will produce value with ease.
Keelan Cole – $5,700
Jacksonville receivers are frustrating on a normal week but this isn’t a normal week. During normal weeks they play against actual NFL defenses. Cole is still the top option on this offense despite Dede Westbrook showing up big time last week and he will have every opportunity in the world to do a lot of damage against the chiefs secondary.
He’s priced in the bargain bin department and only needs to provide thirteen points to help this lineup cash. His big play ability provides a ceiling for you and he’s not necessarily a sure thing, but he’s a week winning option that should also see a healthy target volume against a bad secondary.
FanDuel DFS Picks for Week Five – Tight End, Flex and DST
Vance McDonald – $4,600
The tight end position is brutal this year once again and McDonald is a dirt cheap option that has seen increasing targets every week at a position that doesn’t have many great options. I already mentioned how juicy this matchup is for both teams and the implied point total tells us everyone will be involved. Big Ben has shown a rapport with McDonald over the past two weeks and he looks to be healthy once again. His price is a no brainer and he will have a huge ownership percentage but biting the chalk will be worth it.

Flex – T.J Yeldon – $6,500
Leonard “Mr. Glass” Fournette is out once again and the Jaguars learned the hard way that the Corey Grant experience wasn’t a good one. Yeldon looked great last week in Fournette’s absence and there’s no reason to think he won’t see another large workload this Sunday. The Chiefs are surrendering over a hundred yards a game on the ground and Yeldon is heavily involved in the passing game as well. He’s an easy call at his price and should help round out a lineup full of high floor options that give us a baseline score with potential for more.
D/ST – Tennessee Titans-$4,400
The Titans are the sixth highest scoring fantasy defense, playing against the Buffalo Bills. They are the thirteenth highest priced option at their position. This is genuinely a no brainer.
I’ll continue to do these week by week, but in the mean time throw me a follow on Twitter @TheFFGator and don’t hesitate to reach out with any tough lineup decisions you may have. Good luck this week, and let’s hope we see the same fireworks we saw in week four.
