NFL DraftKings Early Slate October 7: 3 Quarterback and Wide Receiver Stacks
By Bill Pivetz
If you are looking to extract the most points from a quarterback-wide receiver combination in DraftKings, here are three sets worth stacking in Week 5.
The early slate of NFL games on DraftKings features eight games. There are some games that could be potential shootouts, leading to a lot of fantasy points. If you can construct a competitive roster, you can put together a stack of a quarterback and wide receiver for some of these games.
Taking a quick look, the Pittsburgh/Atlanta and Green Bay/Detroit games have high scoring written all over it. Jacksonville and Kansas City could surprise a lot of people, too, especially with how both offenses are currently playing.
DraftKings gives its players a $50,000 budget. The top quarterbacks are priced a bit high but with the right pairing, they could be worth the price. Here are three QB and WR stacks worth investing in for a potentially-high scoring combination in DraftKings.
Honorable Mention: Joe Flacco and John Brown, Ryan Tannehill and Kenny Stills
Ben Roethlisberger and JuJu Smith-Schuster
You could use Antonio Brown instead of Smith-Schuster but the $1,100 price difference may deter DFS players. With DraftKings favoring PPR scoring, Juju should see an increase in points, especially in this game.

Smith-Schuster has 19, 11 and 11 targets in his last three games. He has a combined 416 yards in his last four games. While he has just one touchdown in that span, Smith-Schuster racks up the yardage and receptions to make a nice pair with his quarterback.
The Atlanta Falcons rank 27th against quarterbacks and 24th against wide receivers. With the injuries to the Falcons defense so far, the Steelers passing game should have a field day in this game.
Matt Ryan and Calvin Ridley
Because of the probability of the Steelers having no problems passing the ball, Ryan and the Falcons will likely have to play catch up. Julio Jones, like Brown, is an elite wide receiver but if you look at the numbers, Jones may not be worth the extra money.
He averages 7.3 receptions and 125.5 yards per games this season. That are great numbers but the lack of touchdowns is hurting his value. Ridley, on the other hand, is averaging five catches for 88 yards and two touchdowns per game.
Ridley may not have as many catches but he is scoring touchdowns while getting close to 100 yards. At $5,800, I’d rather use Ridley and spend on a top running back than have Jones not score a touchdown again.
Matthew Stafford and Kenny Golladay
The Detroit Lions offense seems to be able to support three wide receivers after four games. Without a true tight end, that makes things a lot easier.
Marvin Jones Jr. landed on the injury report Friday, which isn’t usually a good thing. The actual injury hasn’t been disclosed so we don’t know how serious it is but he is listed as questionable.
As a result, there are more targets to go around for Golden Tate and Golladay. Tate is averaging 23.0 points per game in DraftKings while Golladay is at 17.8 points. Golladay is more of a PPR receiver with 23 catches on 32 targets. He also has two touchdowns.
There isn’t much of a price difference between the two wide receivers but I’m leaning towards Golladay against the average Green Bay defense.
Big Ben and Ryan are priced at over $6,000 while Stafford is at $5,700. Expect many owners to use the Falcons or Steelers pairing, making the Detroit combo a nice contrarian play. If you want to be even riskier, the two pairings I listed as honorable mentions are worth taking a look at.
