Despite scoring 65 points and winning by 34 against Arkansas, Alabama head coach Nick Saban is not satisfied.
Alabama improved to 6-0 on the season after a 65-31 win at Arkansas behind a near-flawless performance from quarterback Tua Tagovailoa who had four passing touchdowns to only three incompletions.
But after the game, all Nick Saban could talk about was how the defensive showing wasn’t good enough and there’s plenty to work on for them to be where they need to be when they play better opponents.
This is typical Saban who has never been satisfied and is always pushing and striving for perfection. It’s what makes him the best college football coach of all time and why people want to play for him. He demands excellence on every snap in every game and in every practice.
“You don’t really beat the other team when you give up 31 points, Saban said in his postgame press conference.”
“There’s a lot of things and a lot of areas in our team that need to improve. Made a lot of mistakes on defense. Didn’t play together very well as a unit. Had lots of opportunities to get off the field on third down and just didn’t do it.”
Allowing 31 points to Arkansas is not the patented Alabama defensive performance we’ve come to expect from Saban’s teams. In addition to that, Alabama allowed Rakeen Boyd to top the 100-yard rushing mark and quarterback Trevor Storey finished with 230 yards and two touchdowns as he found a lot of success in the short passing game.
All that said, 14 of the 31 points came in the fourth quarter when it was long over, so this is just the latest example of Saban trying to stop the media from giving out another dose of rat poison to take the focus away from his player’s focus on their job at hand.
Believe me, Saban is happy about the win, but he’s miserable about allowing those 31 points.
