10 RB sleepers to target for fantasy football Week 5
By Connor Ulrey
Is your fantasy football team in desperate need of help at the running back spot? We’ve got you covered with 10 sleepers that can help you win in Week 5.
Today we’re branching out for running back sleepers. We’ll hit some backs who haven’t had the reps, who’ve found themselves in great positions and who could surprise you. I’m taking risks, sort of, at least in a writing sense.
Let’s look at 10 running backs who could be valuable last-minute additions for your fantasy football team in Week 5, beginning with Christian McCaffrey’s backup in Carolina.
No. 10 C.J. Anderson vs New York Giants
It’s McCaffrey’s team in Carolina and that’s meant far less touches for the veteran CJ Anderson. This matchup, however, could benefit the use of both backs, especially in the red zone.
Anderson, like McCaffrey, can catch out of the backfield and presents an added bonus to spell moments for the lead back. His touches have wavered since the seven he had Week 1 but that could shift this week.
New Orleans dominated the line of scrimmage against the Giants last week and Kamara nearly left the building on the third. Anderson is the definition of this week’s deep sleeper but I like the matchup and I think the effectiveness to spell McCaffrey could be important.
No. 9 Alfred Morris vs Arizona
The resurgence of Alfred Morris? Well more like the importance of Alfred Morris. Balance keeps the 49ers from forcing CJ Beathard, in Jimmy G’s stead, from a ton of throws and lost games before halftime on Sunday.
Injuries are all over this San Francisco team but luckily they get Arizona this week who couldn’t stop the run if you asked them nicely. When McKinnon went down, Matt Breida was great and continues to be important in that role. It’s what is behind him that could shift that this week.
Morris is a goal-line vulture if there is one in the sleeper role. Breida will get most of the carries but in the red zone, I love Alfred Morris this week. Before last week’s small hiccup with the injury, Morris had his best day against the Chiefs with 14 carries for 67 yards and a touchdown.
Arizona is worst in the league in touchdowns allowed on the ground (7) and yards per game (141.3) and that bodes well for a San Francisco offense that really could use the run a lot this week.
