This week the second season of Black Lightning, on the CW begins. Here’s a look at what to expect in the first episode.
One thing’s for sure: Black Lightning has not lost its penchant for long (and kind of awkward) episode titles. Maybe this is a nod back to the comic source material? Anyways, the second season begins with an episode called “The Book of Consequences Chapter One: The Rise of the Green Light Babies”
The last time we saw the Pierce family, everything seemed to be going very well. The operations of the ASA and the 100 gang in Freeland had been curtailed, and the police seemed to have come to something of an understanding with Black Lightning. Despite the city’s distaste for vigilantism as an institution, relatively few of the officers were opposed to Black Lightning, and he and Inspector Henderson developed some kind of professional relationship, shall we say.
Within the family, everyone’s secrets, or at least their secret identities, were out in the open. Anissa and Jefferson had teamed up as Black Lightning and Thunder to overcome Tobias and his cronies. But Tobias is still out there, and he thought in the final episode of season 1 that he had found something to kill Black Lightning.
The synopsis for the season premiere READS
"The Season 2 premiere: Jefferson Pierce and his family may have survived Tobias’s attack, but they’re not out of the woods yet. Concerned for the safety of Garfield’s students, the board considers a motion to shut down the school, forcing Jefferson to go to Napier Frank to sway the vote. Jennifer struggles with her powers and her actions have unforeseen repercussions. Meanwhile, Anissa finds a new way to give back to Freeland. Lastly, Lynn continues her quest much to the dismay of Agent Odell."
What is clear from this is that Jefferson’s primary duties, as the principal of Garfield High, will remain a priority for him. He was reluctant to take back up the Black Lightning mantle because he felt that he “saved more people’s’ lives as principal.” It doesn’t look like that’s changed. But what could he have to give up in order to keep the school open?
