Heisman rankings – Week 6: Tua Tagovailoa making it look too easy
8. Justin Herbert, QB, Oregon
QB1 on many people’s draft boards at this point of the year, Oregon Ducks quarterback Justin Herbert checks all the boxes for what you want at the position. From size, to improved decision-making to athleticism and playmaking, the junior undoubtedly has it all. Even better, Herbert has put it on display this season and has proven that he can put those tools towards being an exceptional player.
Though Herbert and Oregon had Week 6 off, his numbers are still quite impressive. Herbert already has 1,411 yards passing to go with 15 touchdowns. The black spot on his résumé is his interception total (5), but the good for the Oregon signal-caller far outweighs the bad at this point. If he can continue to perform at this level (or better) moving forward, including a Week 7 matchup against Washington, Herbert definitely has a chance to move up.
7. McKenzie Milton, QB, UCF
It’s starting to feel like the UCF Knights might never lose again. After their undefeated season last year, they have continued their victorious ways emphatically this year with five-straight wins to start the 2018 season. The latest came on Saturday evening against the SMU Mustangs and, as has been the case through most games this season, quarterback McKenzie Milton was a big part of their success.
Admittedly, the win over SMU wasn’t the best game for Milton, but that’s largely attributed to the video-game like numbers he has a propensity for putting up. Even still, the Hawaii native had a solid day in the win with 278 yards passing to go with two touchdowns and one interception. Milton’s rushing totals were low, but that didn’t matter in a 28-point win. To be taken seriously, he needs the video-game numbers, but he’s not out of the rankings by any means.
