4. Will Grier, QB, West Virginia

Unfortunately for Will Grier, the gap between the West Virginia quarterback and the other top candidates to win the 2018 Heisman Trophy is widening by the week. Part of that is indeed because the other players vying for the award are doing some truly incredible things. However, the other part of the equation is that Grier hasn’t been playing at the highest level of late.

Last week, Grier’s lackluster second half was too disappointing to be ignored. This week against Kansas has more of the same. Though Grier threw for 332 yards and four touchdowns, his three interceptions on the day are a huge black mark on his day. That can’t be happening against inferior competition for a player trying to win the most prestigious individual award in college football.

3. Dwayne Haskins, QB, Ohio State

Despite helping to pick up the win and the box score looking good for Dwayne Haskins last week against Penn State, the Ohio State quarterback’s performance left a lot to be desired. Subsequently, he needed to come out this week against Indiana and put forth a big performance to keep his Heisman stock high. This is something that the redshirt sophomore must have been aware of.

Though he did throw two interceptions on the day, Haskins was overall phenomenal in the 49-26 win over the Hoosiers on Saturday. The quarterback threw for 455 yards and six touchdowns in a winning effort, looking miles better than he did last week. He’ll likely need some help from things out of his hands to climb to the top of the rankings again, but if that happens, he’ll be in the mix if he keeps performing at this level.
