Le’Veon Bell can help the Eagles win another Super Bowl

The Philadelphia Eagles aren’t going to win the Super Bowl with their current roster. Trading for Le’Veon Bell would change that in an instant.

If the NFL Playoffs began today, the defending Super Bowl Champions would be on the outside looking in. It’s pretty clear to see that the Philadelphia Eagles need to take some risks to defend their title. Trading for Le’Veon Bell would certainly qualify.

Swinging a deal with the Steelers is a risk worth taking for Doug Pederson and company. The recent injury to Jay Ajayi leaves the Eagles in dire need of a top-notch running back. Bell is the most talented rusher who can be acquired at this stage of the season.

Philadelphia’s recent move to restructure Fletcher Cox’s contract just so happens to give them enough salary cap to bring Bell onto the roster. Any deal for the Pro Bowl back would likely have to be incentive-laden. That sort of contract arrangement would work perfectly for Bell. He’s very concerned about how the Steelers might utilize him before he hits free agency in 2019.

It’s also important to consider what the Steelers might want in a trade. Various reports claim they want a second rounder. The Eagles happen to have two selections in the second round of the 2019 draft. They could certainly afford to part with one of the pair to obtain a game-changer like Bell.

Since the Eagles have the obvious ability to acquire and subsequently compensate Bell, it’s fair to speculate on what sort of impact he could make for the Philadelphia offense. Simply put, he’d make the unit one of the most dangerous offenses in the NFL.

It’s already a very talented group. The return of both Carson Wentz and Alshon Jeffery from long-term injuries already has the offense headed in the right direction. Adding a dynamic rusher and pass catcher like Bell would perfectly compliment the talent the Eagles already have. He would immediately become Wentz’s best receiver. You only need to look at how important Bell was to Ben Roethlisberger in Pittsburgh to understand how much he can help Wentz.

Now is the perfect time for the Eagles to make their move. They are currently 2-3, but that only puts them a half game behind the Redskins atop the NFC East. There’s plenty of time for them to overtake Washington and the rest of the mediocre teams in their division.

The Eagles are telling the public that they don’t have interest in dealing for Bell, but Philadelphia fans should hope that’s just a smokescreen. Bell is a player who can take their team from fringe playoff contender to legitimate Super Bowl contender.
