NHL DFS DraftKings Snipes – Tuesday October 9th
NHL DFS DraftKings Snipes – Tuesday October 9th
Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend and Columbus Day! We are back with another NHL DFS DraftKings Snipes for you daily fantasy players. I’ll be playing today and hopefully you are too. We at FantasyCPR will have you covered with some snipes for the evening.
Each post we will provide a quick recap of players discussed in the previous articles. Success is the clear goal, but it is important to understand our misses as well. See if we can find those trends that work, and areas we can improve. The Friday Snipes post was a two-game slate.
Oct. 5
Anze Kopitar – 1 goal, 5 shots on goal, 22:22 time on ice
Artemi Panarin – 22:37 time on ice, held with no shots on goal and a -1
Ilya Kovalchuk – 20 minutes of ice time, just 2 shots on goal
Zach Werenski – 25 minutes, did not provide much on Friday
David Savard – Similar ice time to Werenski, finished with an assist
Sergei Bobrovsky – 32 saves and 3 goals against
Jonathan Quick – 30 saves and 3 goals against
Hockey offers a fast-paced style of play and on-the-fly line changes making it more difficult to predict outcomes. However, with the use of advanced statistics, you can find an edge in each slate. The goal (pun intended) is to leverage match ups to help you win. That is where FantasyCPR steps in. We want to help ease the selection process to give you that edge. As always, find me on twitter @rickyolshansky or on FantasyCPR for all of the hockey content you need.
Could make this easy and just tell you to start Leafs guys. But what fun would that be. The way Matthews and Tavares have started, their ownership is likely to be through the roof. If you can fit one of them in your lineup, don’t hesitate as they are on absolute fire. But they will be going against a Stars team who stacks up very well against opposing centers. Let’s take a look at a few other options for tonight.
NHL DFS DraftKings Snipes – Centers and Wingers
Favorite stacks for the night – Jets and Predators
C Mark Scheifele Jets ($5,900)
As part of a stack for the Jets, Scheifele gets the top line. Later on we will talk about his teammate Patrik Laine. If you are playing Scheifele, consider stacking his line mates Kyle Connor and Blake Wheeler instead of Laine who plays with the second line. San Jose may have weapons all over the ice, although they lose leadership with Jumbo Joe out with injury. Burns and Karlsson provide help on offense, but haven’t done much to limit opponents. Look for the Jets to take advantage here.
C Kyle Turris Predators ($4,800)
If you aren’t stacking the top line, Turris could be a solid pivot as the Preds are -200 favorites against the Flames tonight. Acquired by Nashville last season, Turris has 13 goals and 31 assists in his 67 games with the team. He has a point-per-game so far with two assists in two games. After joining Nashville, we saw Turris’ possession numbers reach elite level at 55+% CF and FF.
Others to consider: Logan Couture ($6,000), Nolan Patrick ($4,500), Sebastian Aho ($6,200)
W Jakub Voracek Flyers ($5,300)
Voracek is on a similar level to Backstrom in Washington. He’s a near 20 goal scorer, but is a set-up specialist. Last year he finished with 85 points and 65 assists. The Flyers have had an up and down start after beating Vegas and losing to Colorado.
W Warren Foegele Hurricanes ($4,300)
He is a cheaper option on the top line for Carolina. It has been an impressive start tallying two goals and an assist through three games. Although slightly more expensive than Svechnikov, he may still be lesser known as a prospect around the league compared to the #2 overall pick in last years draft. Let’s ride that hot start, and see if he can continue scoring.
W Patrik Laine Jets ($6,600)
Laine gets the opportunity to light the lamp at home against a back up goalie for LA. As stated earlier, it is not recommended to stack Laine and Scheifele because they are on different lines. If you are going the direction of Laine, consider going with Nikolaj Ehlers to pair with him. Laine is a bona-fide goal scorer after finishing with 44 in year two. He had 20 power play goals last season and remains one of the most deadly snipers on the team.
Others to Consider: Blake Wheeler ($6,700), Mikko Rantanen ($6,300), Viktor Arvidsson ($6,100)
NHL DFS DraftKings Snipes – Defense and Goalies
D Morgan Rielly Leafs ($6,000)
This Leafs team already has 13 goals on the season. They have one of the most high-powered offenses led by Auston Matthews and John Tavares. So it seems like a good idea to grab the top defender on this team. He’s getting just over 21 minutes of ice time per game and has great possession numbers thus far. His Corsi is 52.5% and Fenwick is 55.4%. Those numbers may dip against a better opponent in Dallas, but this team looks powerful enough to keep scoring at will.
D Ryan Ellis Predators ($4,900)
Ellis is the beneficiary of playing alongside Roman Josi. Ellis is $900 cheaper than Josi so let’s use that money elsewhere. He is getting nearly 23 minutes of ice time and should see an improvement in possession metrics tonight against Calgary.
D Josh Morrissey Jets ($4,200)
Value option on the top defensive line with Jacob Trouba. He recently signed a deal to stick with the Jets and can now focus on hockey. He only has one assist in their first two games, but Morrissey has blocked a ridiculous 10 shots already.
Others to consider: Dustin Byfuglien ($5,000), John Klingberg ($5,600)
G Connor Hellebuyck Jets (8,200)
The win is never a sure thing, but VegasInsider likes the Jets chances tonight against a LA Kings team without Quick. Hellebuyck was an all-star last year and has started 1-1 this year. He generally sits below 3.00 goals against per game and will look to lower that number tonight. He won 44 games last year and should have another solid opportunity tonight.
Others to consider: Pekka Rinne ($8,400), Ben Bishop ($7,500)
