Fantasy Football: Week 6 Lock Plays
By Shaun Evans
Hey guys! Another week is in the books so lets dive into Week 6 and see who we should lock in and dominate these fantasy football contests with! I promise, no San Francisco 49ers players this week or for the rest of the season!
Recap of Week 5 “Lock Plays”
Last week we didn’t miss that bad except for at the Quarterback position which I really didn’t expect. Lets get the bad out of the way first. Matt Ryan finished with 15.40 points against the Pittsburgh Steelers and the killing of the Falcons didn’t even allow Ryan to put up fantasy football points in junk yard time.
Next is George Kittle who finished with 13.30 points which isn’t bad for a tight end but I expected more against the Arizona Cardinals. Melvin Gordon III came in with 22 points while Adam Thielen continued his dominance and finished with 27.60 points. Antonio Brown, who has been frustrated on and off the field, finished with 31.10 points and is back to his dominant self.
Salary: Draftkings: $7,900 | Fanduel: $8,500
By far the easiest lock in play of the week but possible tilting to happen is Julio Jones. Jones gets to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers who rank dead last in passing defense, allowing 358 yards through the air.
On Draftkings, Jones price tag is also something to look at, it’s very affordable with what value he’ll give back likely on Sunday. The Buccaneers have allowed six different wide receivers to have a hundred yards receiving in their first four games.
The Philadelphia Eagles are the only team to have no receivers break a hundred yards. So even if Calvin Ridley is once again being fed the ball from Matt Ryan, expect Julio Jones to have the same treatment as the Buccaneers can not stop the pass at all.
Also Carlton Davis and Brent Grimes are two of the top ten worse in coverage at the wide-out position which will be where Julio Jones is lining up majority of the game. So overall, lock Julio Jones in now.
Salary: Draftkings: $6,300 | Fanduel: $7,500
Someone who should have been a “Lock Play” last week is now one this week. Andy Dalton comes in to Week 6 facing the Pittsburgh Steelers. I know the same team that Matt Ryan faced last week and failed to put up for us.
Dalton is getting the job done this season and has only been under 20 fantasy football points twice out of the five games so far. Pittsburgh is giving up 296 yards through the air on average and come in to Week 6 ranking 29th.
While the Steelers do have the upper hand on Dalton, he comes in this year with more weapons and an overall better offense. With Joe Mixon being healthy plus A.J. Green and Tyler Boyd, the Steelers have more to worry about this year.
Dalton is another Quarterback, when at home, is dominant as he has a quarterback rating of 93.3 with only 3 interceptions and 13 touchdowns in his past 7 games which is something we can’t overlook. As this is a divisional rivalry game, expect a high scoring, shoot out.
Todd Gurley III
Salary: Draftkings: $10,000 | Fanduel: $9,500
At $10,000 on Draftkings, Todd Gurley is someone you just can’t pass up on when there are ways to build a roster around him. In a injured but still dangerous offense, Gurley will get the job done. Having another multiple touchdown game last week, there is no one close to putting up the numbers and fantasy football points and this week, Gurley gets to face the Denver Broncos.
The Broncos are allowing 139 yards rushing per game which ranks 30th so far in the NFL. So while Brandon Cooks and Cooper Kupp are in concussion protocol, that leaves Goff without his multiple weapons through the air, still don’t doubt him please, but it leaves more of a workload for Gurley this weekend.
Expect Gurley to get his regular amount of touches in the backfield but also expect him to be used in the passing more also.
Salary: Draftkings: $3,500 | $5,600
Being one of the “What To Watch For” pieces, Austin Hooper is also a “lock play” for this weekend. Tampa Bay has been mentioned already for what they lack of doing and that’s stopping the passing game which means utilize the opposing teams Wide Receivers but also utilize their tight ends.

Having Vance McDonald breaking a hundred yards while Zach Ertz and Trey Burton came close to doing so, the Buccaneers have also allowed two touch-downs to tight ends. Hooper only exceeds if the match-up is correct and that is this weekend.
The last time that he had a good match-up this season, he put up 55 yards off of 5 catches, which was also the amount of targets he saw, and had a touch-down, giving him 16 points for the week during Week 2. He also saw targets last week for 77 yards so we know the connection between him and Matt Ryan is there and should be there once again this weekend against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Salary: Draftkings: $7,300 | Fanduel: $7,800
Going back to the Cincinnati Bengals game but on the opposing side, JuJu Smith-Schuster is in play and locked in. While being a receiver to watch weekly, JuJu still gets the looks and attentions that he deserves.
Facing the Bengals who give up 276 yards through the air, they have only given up two one hundred yards games to receivers and that was to the Atlanta Falcons, Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley. Smith-Schuster gets the targets but has a tendency to drop those thrown his way. While that does happen, he still finds a way to put up the numbers by receiving yards or finding the end-zone.
He has yet to have a week under 10 fantasy football points and with this being a division rivalry game, expect him and Antonio Brown to find ways to the end-zone as both quarterbacks will be trying to put the throttle all the way to ground. So if you’re afraid to roster Julio Jones in his prime match-up, JuJu would be the next receiver to lock in.
