NFL DRAFT DFS: 2018 Week 6 Rankings (DRAFT.com)
Why do you need another DFS site? Because DRAFT combines the excitement of a season-long draft into one set of games! This article has some targets and pre-draft rankings all set for you to jump into some NFL DRAFT DFS action!
Welcome to the NFL week six edition of NFL DRAFT DFS, covering snake drafts on DRAFT.com from FantasyCPR. Every week, I will cover the main slate on DRAFT, omitting the Thursday game from this article. If you draft before Thursday night, there may be a few players not in the rankings to add to your rankings. If you are new to DRAFT or if you are wondering what I am even talking about, check it out here.
If you have read my DRAFT articles for PGA and MLB in the past, this set-up is nearly identical in terms of breaking it down. I will first go over my targets at each position, and follow that up with rankings. Each target will be followed with their overall ranking. Rosters on DRAFT are 1-QB, 2-RB’s, and 2 WR/TE’s, so just five spots.
Tournament size varies as far as how many participants are in each DRAFT, but this column will be geared towards cash games. The most popular of these that I play are the $1 6-man’s and $5 10-man’s. Therefore, I will give my top 50 overall rankings after the targets, with 10 quarterbacks, 20 running backs, and 20 wide receivers. That should cover you for your 10-man contests! Before we get to this weeks targets and rankings, let’s check out how last weeks targets fared!
NFL DRAFT DFS Week Three Recap:
It was another solid week overall for me personally on DRAFT, as I took down a $5.00 10-man for $22.50 and also hit on a few 6-man’s. I was especially good at auctions again, sticking with what worked last week. I have to say there is a certain edge in auctions, and they are incredibly fun. Imagine getting Todd Gurley and Melvin Gordon on the same team on DRAFT. This is pretty much only possible auction style. Maybe in the future I will shift my focus on auctions, but for now, let’s see how last weeks targets for 10-man snake drafts fared.
QB:
It was a great week here for my quarterback targets, and my rankings were pretty spot on as well after breaking that down a bit. I had just a few shares of Drew Brees, but had close to 50% exposure to Ben Roethlisberger. To put that in perspective, I did 32 total drafts and auctions, and had 13 teams with Big Ben. He only threw for 250 yards, but the three touchdown passes certainly helped the bottom line, as the final tally was a respectable 22.6 DP.
Brees however was lights out. Of course we all know by now he broke the all-time passing yardage record, and it sounds like he is on his way to breaking more records. The thing I stressed in my article last week was that I am banking on the Saints and Brees to light it up at home. Let’s face it, Washington had great early defensive numbers, but who do they really have? Seriously, the Saints are just different at home, and you can play Brees against almost anybody there. On his way to breaking the record, Brees amassed 363 yards with three touchdowns for a total of 27.2 DP. He was the second highest scoring QB on the slate, just behind Aaron Rodgers, who threw for 442 yards and three touchdowns in a losing effort in Detroit.
RB:
There’s an old saying, “two out of three ain’t bad.” I always want to get the bad picks out of the way first, so let’s talk about Aaron Jones. I don’t understand it, and I know plenty of Packer fans who agree with me on this one. When in the hell is Mike McCarthy going to give this guy the carries and snaps he deserves? I am a Vikings fan, and watching this makes me happy for personal reasons, but not for fantasy purposes whatsoever.
Jones only had 6.9 DP, with 40 yards on seven carries, adding 19 more yards on two catches. Anybody who watches football can see Jones should be the workhorse back here, Jamaal Williams is a back-up at best, and Ty Montgomery is a wide receiver. Until McCarthy figures out his backfield I will be fading all of it.
Now for the goods. Melvin Gordon actually kind of underachieved from my perspective, but I will take 20 DP out of my first round pick 10-out-of-10 times, if the rest of my picks also get to that 20 DP mark. Gordon had a tough time getting anything going against the Raiders defense, and a TD and some receiving yards helped his bottom line as they always do. He had just 58 yards on 19 carries, but caught four passes for an additional 62. In my opinion, this is almost a floor game for Gordon, and that just shows how good he has been.
The last RB target was a monster. James Conner bounced back like I said he needed to, and was once again a huge part of the Steelers offense, racking up 110 yards rushing on 21 carries, and finding the end zone twice. He was also fantastic in the receiving game, catching all four of his targets, for an additional 75 yards. The final product was 32.5 DP, and if you were able to land him, you likely found the cash. Let’s hope we can dig something up here again this week.
WR/TE:
A mixed bag here, but finding a last round gem, who shows up as questionable in the middle of the week, ends up playing and crushing, is always a win. This of course was Davante Adams, who torched the Lions for 140 yards on nine catches. He scored a touchdown as well, and finished with 24.5 DP. That’s a great total for a last round pick, and he led me to plenty of green.
The other two targets were JuJu Smith-Schuster and Stefon Diggs. JuJu was a disappointing for a second round pick, despite finding the end zone. 11.4 DP is OK, but you want at least 17.5 or so out of your number one wide-out, and Smith-Schuster took a back seat to Antonio Brown and James Conner instead this week. Diggs was better, and he and Adam Thielen continue to be one of the best duos in the league. Diggs caught 10 balls for 91 yards, and ended up with 16.6 DP. If he gets in the end zone here, we are talking about a 20+ DP day and a steal of a fourth round pick. Again, I’ll take that from my second to last or last pick, and I will also continue to draft Diggs if he is still available in the fourth round of most drafts.
So it was another good week! Two in a row. I have gotten a few 10-man’s in this week, and there is actually a slightly different approach this week. With that in mind, let’s continue to this weeks targets!
NFL DRAFT DFS: QB Targets:
Pat Mahomes – Kansas City Chiefs – (18)
By the numbers, it wasn’t Mahomes’ best game last week, but in the eyes of those who know football, what he did against the Jaguars defense was impressive. He did throw his first two interceptions of the season and fail to throw a touchdown pass, instead, he made up for it with another rushing touchdown, marking a rushing TD in two straight.
The Chiefs offense is the real deal, and after proving it against a top defense in the league, I am certainly on board against the Patriots defense, despite the fact that they are improving weekly. I think this Sunday night game in Foxboro with the Chiefs looking to stay undefeated in their toughest test of the year will prove Mahomes even more.
It’s rare I draft a QB as early as the third round, but Mahomes is falling right there this week. I will take him here, because I see 25+ DP in a shoot-out, while these two offenses trade touchdowns all night. A lot of people will be looking to stack that Atlanta/Tampa Bay game, and this game features much more talent.
Aaron Rodgers – Green Bay Packers – (25)
When I do wait to draft my QB, Rodgers seems to be falling to the late fourth, early fifth round. He is ending up being the sixth or seventh QB drafted on average, and I like him much more than that this week. Davante Adams is hot, and when he can hold on to the ball, he is one of the best in the league. After a huge game from both Rodgers and Adams last week, I thought they would be a bit more popular.
For the record, if I did not write-up Adams last week, I would again. I decided Rodgers is obviously the next best thing, after his monster 28+ DP performance this week. This week, the Packers will get the 49ers at home, who are struggling since the loss of QB Jimmy Garoppolo for the season. The defense gave up 28 points to Arizona, so my guess is Rodgers torches them here at Lambeau Field this Sunday.
NFL DRAFT DFS: RB Targets:
Todd Gurley – Los Angeles Rams – (1)
Well this is a first this year. We have a clear-cut no questions asked first overall pick this week. With the return of Mark Ingram to the Saints backfield last week, the Alvin Kamara / Gurley debate is clearly over. The Saints are actually on a bye this week anyways, but that is neither here nor there.
I have done a few drafts this week, and I had one draft where Gurley did not go first overall. I know you are all curious now and you should be. The guy took Christian McCaffrey at 1.01 and I was able to get Melvin Gordon at three overall. Things like this will happen, and it is even more unpredictable in auctions. You really need to read and react on DRAFT quickly to be good. Paying attention to your whole draft is vital for success. I don’t even need to touch on the numbers. Gurley is dominating this year and is facing a defense that just allowed over 200 rushing yards to Isaiah Crowell. Don’t over think it.
James White – New England Patriots – (15)
Probably my favorite pick this week is someone I already have a ton of shares of. White is a week in, week out threat out of the backfield for the New England offense. Brady loves throwing to this guy, and he already has four receiving touchdowns this season. His low projection of 12.7 was pushing him into the third round early in the week, but it seems the word is out, as he is now being drafted mid-second. This is of course in the 10-man tournaments. I am never referring to 6-man tournaments here just to reiterate. I am absolutely comfortable taking him as soon as mid-second round, as the talent at the position really tails off after this.
Dalvin Cook – Minnesota Vikings – (33)
This is a week where we might have to grab a running back at the end, and there are a ton of different ways to go with all of the questionable tags. I am writing up Cook, but he at least looks like he is on track to play, but I will cover some other guys to look at instead of getting into the numbers on Cook. If Cook is healthy, he is explosive. The Vikings have had zero run game this season so there is no doubt they need him.
Early in the week, I probably drafted way too much Isaiah Crowell, as he was going to be featured right here. However, Crowell is still not practicing as of Thursday, and that is not a good sign for his availability this Sunday against the Colts. At least I will get to swap once he is downgraded right? Man I love DRAFT!!
Also down here in this range you have Marshawn Lynch, who looks like he will play, and Tevin Coleman becomes a great play against Tampa Bay is Devonta Freeman can’t go. Chris Carson is also a player to consider down here, but Oakland has been pretty solid against the run so the expectations have to be curbed there a bit.
NFL DRAFT DFS: WR/TE Targets:
DeAndre Hopkins – Houston Texans – (7)
While Houston is struggling to pick up wins with a record that stands at just 2-3, their passing remains elite as long as QB DeAndre Hopkins is at the helm. Behind only Steelers star wideout Antonio Brown in my rankings this week, I have a ton of faith Hopkins continues to get it done. This is certainly a great match-up, as the Texans will host Buffalo, and with the rest of the Houston receiving corp nursing injuries, it likes this is another prime week for double-digit targets for Hopkins. He caught nine passes for 151 yards last week on 13 targets, giving him a total of 57 targets and 39 receptions through the first five weeks. He is going late first round in 10-man’s, as he should.
Adam Thielen – Minnesota Vikings – (12)
I’ll just keep going back and forth between Stefon Diggs and Thielen I guess, since I seem to be getting them right every week. Thielen is a target machine, and really left a mark on the NFL last week, by becoming the first player in NFL history to record five consecutive 100-yard-games to start a season. He has averaged just over 20 DP per game, and he is finally being drafted accordingly, going pretty firmly in the early to mid second round. The thing is though, Diggs is not. Both of these receivers are scorching hot, and both should be drafted accordingly. While I prefer Thielen this week, I am not passing on Diggs when he falls into the fourth round.
Travis Kelce – Kansas City Chiefs – (22)
Our last target of the week, is another guy sneaking into late third round range, which is a steal in my opinion. Some would think maybe that Tyreek Hill is the guy to pair with Mahomes this week, but I think his tight end is the better option here. Hill will likely be shadowed by Patriots star corner Stephon Gilmore, so things should open up for Kelce in the middle. Kelce has averaged right around 15 DP per game over the last three, and he even managed a 100-yard-game last week against the mighty Jaguars defense. I have plenty of the Mahomes/Kelce combo this week, and I am tempted to go draft more just writing this.
