Texas is back and the Longhorns are looking to extend their winning streak. Meanwhile, the Baylor Bears are sneaking through the Big 12 and have a potent offense that could challenge Texas.
Tom Herman and his No. 9 Texas Longhorns are riding plenty of momentum and a five-game winning streak at the moment. After this past weekend where the Longhorns took down the reigning Big 12 champs, UT is looking to continue its climb in the conference with a potentially high scoring affair against the Baylor Bears in Austin.
Baylor, on the other hand, has been shocking foes all season and currently holds a 4-2 overall record. The Bears, after winning only one game last year, are getting really close to becoming bowl eligible in 2018. Baylor is fresh off of an exciting win against Kansas State and is looking to carry that momentum forward into its game at Texas.
There’s a pretty solid chance that the Longhorns are going to be coming off of an emotional high. Beating the Oklahoma Sooners in the manner that Texas did was incredible and deserves recognition. Now, after receiving a ton of recognition and a top ten ranking, the Longhorns can’t afford to overlook Baylor. If Texas wants to retake control over the Big 12, then it must make sure that it wins the remaining games on its schedule. That includes finding a way to slow down the Bears’ offense that is racking up nearly 500 yards a game.
Baylor’s offense will have a hard time to score at will against UT. It’s known that the Longhorns have a pretty solid defense. It looks like the Bears are going to have an even harder time slowing the Longhorns down. Right now, Baylor is allowing teams to gain 411 total yards of offense per game. Texas isn’t exactly a slouch on offense either. Sam Ehlinger will be looking for plenty of big-play opportunities as he leads an offense that is averaging 414.7 yards of offense per game.

Prediction: The Texas Longhorns are a better-equipped team in 2018. While Baylor has appeared to be pretty good on offense during the second year of the Matt Rhule era, they’re not all that sharp on defense. Meanwhile, UT is pretty talented on both sides of the ball. Don’t bet against the Longhorns here. The Longhorns should advance to 6-1 on the season, setting them up for a nice and relaxing bye week before they face Oklahoma State. Baylor will also be heading into a bye week after this game, but they’ll need to be prepared to take on the West Virginia Mountaineers after they rest up.
