Fantasy Football – Saturday Waiver Wire Players to Stash
Waivers have come and gone and now it’s time to find some Waiver Wire stashes to get out in front of the crowd for Week 7 for fantasy football!
It’s a little bit of a slower week for some of the players that should be owned heading into the next week, but that doesn’t mean there’s no value out on the Waiver Wire.. We have five players in front of us and some are more in the lottery ticket portion of fantasy. Sometimes those are the players that pay off the most and can help owners in a pinch so let’s get to work.
Antonio Callaway – WR, Cleveland Browns – It’s been a mixed bag at best so far for Callaway and it got to the point where coach Hue Jackson suggested that Callaway might benefit from taking a step back and playing less. As is usual with Jackson, that coach speak turned out to be totally untrue as his snaps remained almost the exact same. He’s still seeing enough targets and still leads the team in aDOT. Those are valuable targets and when he gets to face off against the Tampa defense that has given up 20 plays of 20+ yards already before Week 6, I want some part of Callaway in the upcoming weeks.

Marlon Mack – RB, Indianapolis Colts – Mack has been out of the mix for the Colts for basically the entire season so far but he’s finally practicing in full again. The Colts have yet to establish any type of running game and in the one game Mack did play in, he saw 10 rushing attempts and caught a pass. I’m not going to pretend I know how the Indy backfield shakes out at this point. Coach Frank Reich likely doesn’t know. Mack should see opportunity and running backs are so scarce, it’s worth taking the shot to see what happens. If Mack consistently sees double digit touches and Luck is improving, he’s going to be a flex option every week.
Tre’Quan Smith – WR, New Orleans Saints – Maybe it was just because Ted Ginn was out, but Smith certainly made the most of his limited opportunities this past Monday night. He turned three targets into 111 yards and two touchdowns. Sure, some of that was poor coverage from the Redskins defense but that’s not Smith’s fault. He saw his snaps jump up over 66 percent which was a huge leap. The Saints have a bye week to get him more involved in the offense and he’s earned a bigger role. I might not feel totally comfortable starting him in Week 7, but if he starts taking over the Ginn role, you have to be in front of everyone else to pick him up.
Chris Godwin – WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Do I wish that Godwin was running more routes and seeing more snaps and targets? Absolutely. Still, he should not be under 50 percent owned on Yahoo or any other platform. Let’s just be honest, Ryan Fitzpatrick was and always was the second best quarterback on the Bucs. It was a nice story but Jameis Winston is better. He’s not perfect by any stretch but there is still more upside when Winston is under center. Godwin is the leading receiver in the red zone, which helps make up for the low snap percentage a little bit. He needs to be rostered, especially now that his bye week is past.
Kyle Juszczyk – RB, San Francisco 49ers – Matt Bredia has been ruled doubtful on Thursday for a Monday night game this week. That would likely suggest that his injury might linger a little longer than a week and Juszcyzk is a great way to help fill the void. He’s seeing over 60 percent of the snaps and C.J. Beathard is still targeting the running back position well over 20 percent of the time. Alfred Morris has been dubbed “Skillet Hands” before with good reason so if Breida is out, Juszczyk is the pass catching running back. That’s going to be a lot of garbage time points since the 49ers will likely be playing catchup quite often the rest of the way. If you’re a Breida owner, get Juszczyk on your bench right now.
