2. Kyler Murray, Oklahoma

Though the last time we saw Kyler Murray and the Oklahoma Sooners featured the team getting upset by the Texas Longhorns in the Red Rivers Showdown, there was little in that game to put down the star quarterback about. While he wasn’t perfect, he was heroic in trying to lead his team back and steal a win from their rivals, finishing with nearly 400 yards of total offense and with five touchdowns on the day.

Murray has been an absolute star all season with 21 passing touchdowns and five rushing touchdowns and over 2,100 yards of total offense. Admittedly, he’s going to need to avoid letdown games moving through the rest of the Big 12 schedule, but he’s shown the talent and leadership to make you believe that he’s here to stay at the top of this race, which is intriguing given what’s going on with Tua Tagovailoa.

1. Tua Tagovailoa, Alabama

As he has for the majority of the season helming the Alabama Crimson Tide offense this season, Tua Tagovailoa was making it look easy against the Missouri Tigers on Saturday evening. Through three quarters, Tua had gone 12-of-22 for 265 yards and three touchdowns. What’s more, he didn’t play in the fourth quarter for the seventh-straight week. However, this time, it was for a different reason.

Going down at the end of a run, Tagovailoa stayed down after going down awkwardly. He was taken to the medical tent and did not return. While reports say it’s a mild knee sprain that he could’ve returned from, there is at least some cause for concern. At this point with how he’s played, the only thing that could keep Tua from the 2018 Heisman Trophy is an injury and missing time. This is scarily close to being just that and making this race tighter than it should be.
