The Oakland Raiders are trending toward a total rebuild

The Oakland Raiders have struggled out of the gate this season, and may be trending toward hitting the reset button for their franchise.
When the Oakland Raiders shelled out a mega 10-year, $100 million contract to head coach Jon Gruden, they didn’t envision the team to begin the season at 1-4. Gruden began his tenure by infamously deciding against paying the former force of the Raiders defense in Khalil Mack, and it all went downhill from there. Now the Raiders are considering shaking up the roster even further, by shopping a couple former first-round draft picks.
Oakland’s defense currently ranks among the bottom in many major statistical categories, including yards and points allowed per game. The teams poor defensive efforts have caused the offense to find themselves in many high scoring affairs. As a result, they have been fairly inefficient and Derek Carr currently leads the league in interceptions with eight.
Amari Cooper and Karl Joseph haven’t really panned out the way the Raiders hoped they would when they were selected back in the 2015 and ’16 NFL drafts respectively.

Trading away these players will surely entail that the Raiders are giving up on this season, and will attempt to rebuild the roster closer to coach Gruden’s liking. Although it’s still early on in Gruden’s second tenure with the team, Oakland has to be feeling a bit uneasy about giving him such an exorbitant deal this past offseason.
The Raiders roster could look a bit different after their Week 7 bye if these rumors are indeed true.
