DraftKings MLB Picks October 16: Pitching is roulette, place your bets!
Our time for MLB on DraftKings is coming to a close. Only tomorrow is guaranteed to have a two game slate. There is a possibility for this weekend, but the NLCS would have to go seven games for that to happen. That doesn’t mean we should ignore baseball though. The NBA starts tonight, so the baseball tournaments are smaller. That also means most of the sharks have flipped sports. There is a better chance for regular players that don’t throw 150 lineups in there to win something.

There is a 10mph wind blowing in in Houston, but the weather is going to be beautiful, which could cater to the hitters a little more than in frigid Boston. It’s going to be a really nice night in L.A. as well.
These tips are based mostly on past performance. This is a nice tool for building a lineup, but should not be the only pieces of information you use. We have plenty of writers on here who give you relevant information no matter which site you play on!

Top Tier:
Rich Hill ($8,300): The Brewers are hitting .288 with three homers and nine runs in 73 at bats against Hill, but the 21 strikeouts mean Hill has the best strikeout potential on the slate. Hill was average against the Braves in the NLDS, but he did pick up 43.4 DraftKings points in two starts against the Brewers this year. However, given Hill’s subpar performance in the NLDS and the way the Brewers are going right now, do you want this kind of risk?
Middle Tier:
Nathan Eovaldi ($7,500): Anytime you use a pitcher against an offense like Boston, you’re taking a risk. The Astros are hitting .277 with six homers and nine runs in 101 at bats with 20 strikeouts. Those are decent enough numbers on a slate like this. Eovaldi was strong against his former team, but he allowed four runs in six innings against the Astros earlier this year. Eovaldi picked up 11.3 DraftKings points in that game, which is not nearly enough.
Dallas Keuchel ($6,900): The Red Sox weren’t all that strong against lefties this year. Those of you with a good memory will realize that they were no-hit by a lefty earlier this year. They are only hitting .244 off of Keuchel, but Boston does have five homers and 20 runs in just 135 at bats. The 33 strikeouts help mitigate the damage, but those are some serious power numbers. Keuchel had just 0.9 DraftKings points in his start against Boston this season. Now you should be sufficiently scared of all of the pitchers tonight.
Bargain Pitchers:
Brandon Woodruff ($5,800): We saw the Brewers use Gio Gonzalez as the opener in Game 1 to keep some Dodger lefties out of the lineup. I would imagine that is the capacity in which Gio will be used again tonight. We can assume that Woodruff will enter in the middle innings again. Given that Woodruff racked up 16.5 DraftKings points in just two innings against the Dodgers in Game 1, he would be the Brewers pitcher to chase tonight. That being said, chase is a very literal term here. You are essentially chasing the win and hoping to catch lightning in a bottle again. If you are going that route, the Dodgers struck out a staggering 14 times – a postseason record – in Game 3. Using a piece of the Brewers bullpen may not be a bad idea if you aren’t sold on Woodruff.
Top Tier:
Forget all the numbers I can throw at you. George Springer in the post season is completely different that George Springer during the regular season. Alex Bregman homered off of Eovaldi in his only game against him.
Mookie Betts and J.D. Martinez have both slugged homered off of Dallas Keuchel. The difference is Betts is 4-8 overall. Martinez is just 2-11, but he does have four RBI.
Max Muncy hasn’t done anything in this series to warrant that price tag. I would much rather find the extra $300 to use on Mookie.
I’m not above using Christian Yelich against a lefty. Especially a lefty that he is 3-10 against in his career.

Middle Tier:
Jose Altuve looks too cheap. He is 5-15 with two solo homers and a steal against Eovaldi in his career.
Xander Bogaerts is 3-12 with a homer against Keuchel. Steve Pearce has homered off of him as well and usually torches lefties, but Pearce is just 2-22 off of Keuchel.
Jesus Aguliar is the only Brewer besides Granderson to homer off of Rich Hill, for whatever that’s worth. Lorenzo Cain is 3-7 with three runs and a RBI off of Hill.
Craig Counsell‘s game of using Gio as the opener borders on genius. If the Dodgers use their normal amount of lefties, then Gio will just pitch his usual six innings. If the Dodgers stack righties, Gio can exit after an inning or two and Milwaukee can use that dominant pen. The issue is that it sucks for us trying to figure out who to play. Justin Turner is in play for sure. So is Yasiel Puig. Beyond that it gets risky. You can probably trust Matt Kemp against either hand, but I don’t know about Kike.
Bargain Shoppers:
Ian Kinsler is 11-36(.306) with a homer, a steal and two RBI against Keuchel. Christian Vazquez is 2-6 with three runs scored.
Curtis Granderson isn’t someone that you would normally expect in the lineup against lefties, but he has slugged two homers against Rich Hill, and is 3-6 against him lifetime.
