Raheem Mostert, San Francisco 49ers

Stats: 12 carries for 87 yards

The San Francisco 49ers frustrated a lot of fantasy football owners by the way they handled Alfred Morris on Monday Night. Many believed he was in for a solid workload with Matt Breida nursing an injury.

However, Breida ended up leading the team with carries while Morris didn’t touch the ball once. The biggest surprise was that Raheem Mostert saw plenty of action and finished with 12 carries.

Mostert basically took Morris’ touches and looked like a more effective runner. He averaged 7.3 yards per carry while registering a long run of 26 yards. His success only further clouds what has been an unpredictable backfield.

It really shouldn’t come as much as a surprise after the season ending injury to Jerick McKinnon. The 49ers planned on using McKinnon as their lead back, but were forced to shuffle the lineup after his injury.

Mostert is far from guaranteed to see 12 carries per game. However, he showed enough this past week to earn more playing time. It’s possible that the 49ers go with the younger and more explosive Mostert over Morris moving forward.

Despite the 49ers overall lack of talent, they have been able to put up some nice offensive numbers. Their running game has found success and could be even more effective with C.J. Beathard playing well at quarterback.
