NHL DFS DraftKings Snipes – Tuesday October 16th, 2018

We are back with another NHL DFS DraftKings Snipes for you daily fantasy players. We at FantasyCPR will have you covered with some snipes for tonight’s eight-game slate.

Each post will provide a quick recap of players discussed in previous articles. Success is the clear goal, but it is important to understand our misses as well. See if we can find those trends that work, and areas we can improve.

Sunday did not go according to plan as the Hurricanes were cooled off by the Jets. Laurent Brossoit stone-walled them making 42 saves in a 3-1 victory. Patrik Laine, Kyle Connor and Bryan Little had the three goals for the Jets. The Ducks were mighty in St. Louis taking down the Blues with scores from Andrew Cogliano, Jakob Silfverberg and Ben Street.

Below is a recap of Sunday’s DraftKings Snipes action that we talked about.

Oct. 14

Sebastian Aho – 1 assist and 2 shots on goal

Adam Henrique – Quiet night with 3 blocks and 16:45 time on ice.

Ryan Kesler -1 assist and 20:23 time on ice.

Rickard Rakell – 6 shots on goal, held point-less. 4 blocked shots.

Teuvo Teravainen – 1 shot on goal. 17:34 time on ice.

Andrei Svechnikov – 7 shots on goal. Only saw 12:38 of ice time.

Dougie Hamilton – 1 assist, 3 shots on goal and 4 blocked shots.

Hampus Lindholm – 2 assists and 3 blocks. 22:16 time on ice.

Petr Mrazek – 23 saves and 2 goals against in a loss.

Apologies for missing Monday’s post. A brief recap of yesterday’s action. The Canadiens dropped 7 on the Red Wings as it felt like everyone on the team had at least a point. Ottawa stayed hot in their 4-1 victory over the Stars. Maxime Lajoie and Brady Tkachuk stayed hot, each scoring a goal. Craig Anderson held the Stars to one goal on 38 shots. Wouldn’t you know it, the Leafs won again at home. Matthews and Tavares had three assists combined. But it’s time to stop sleeping on Kasperi Kapanen as he put up two more goals. The Preds took down the Wild at home with goals from Filip Forsberg, Craig Smith, Mattias Ekholm and Miikka Salomaki.

NHL DFS DraftKings Snipes – Centers

Steven Stamkos Lightning ($6,100)

Tampa is still pretty far behind other teams in games played which makes it more difficult to judge where they stand in the league. The offense is still trying to get back in the groove of the season, and they did so in a big way on Saturday.

Although they are still tinkering with line combinations, the three Lightning that will be discussed in today’s Snipes was responsible for three goals and three assists over the weekend. To fade this group looks like it could be a mistake tonight as Tampa is back at home against the Hurricanes. With a line that is clicking the way they did the other night, it is hard to imagine Stamkos will be held goal-less for long. Either way, he should have a productive night.

Erik Haula Golden Knights ($4,700)

Here is a cheap option for you at center. With Stastny out, Haula could see some time with the second line. The Knights are off to a bit of a slow start, but Haula’s usage is undeniable. He scored nearly 30 goals last season for the Knights and helped out on the power-play unit. So far this season, he has been seeing time on the second power-play team.

Nathan MacKinnon Avalanche ($7,700)

If you filled your lineup with a cheaper option somewhere, don’t be afraid to insert MacKinnon as your stud. His talent is undeniable, as his goal output is still greater than games played. His speed and skill combined make him a threat against any opponent. The Rangers don’t seem like the team that will slow him down either as they rank 26th in the league against opposing centers.

It feels like Mac has been in league for a full career, but he is still just 23 years old and finally had that breakout season. Last year he finished three points shy of the century mark with 39 goals and 58 assists. 27 goals came at even strength with 12 on the power-play.

NHL DFS DraftKings Snipes – Wingers

Brayden Point Lightning ($5,900)

What a great name for a hockey player. Last season, Point broke out for 66 points with 32 goals and 34 assists. He scored on both of his shots in Tampa Bay’s last game and dished out an assist on the power play.

More from FanSided

Yanni Gourde Lightning ($5,500)

Gourde is the last piece of the stack, and the cheapest. This team should be able to put up points in bunches, as last year they scored 296 goals as a team. That is what makes a Tampa stack so appealing. Similar to Point, Gourde also had a breakout season with 25 goals and 39 assists in his third NHL season. Currently sitting at a point per game, Gourde should continue this upward trend as the team catches up in the schedule.

Jake Guentzel Penguins ($6,400)

There should be no hesitation grabbing someone who shares the ice with Sidney Crosby. Speaking of ice, this guy has his own milkshake called the Jake Shake. I haven’t tried it, but I’m sure it’s delicious. Enough about ice cream, let’s get back to business. Guentzel in his first full season had 48 points while averaging 16:29 time on ice. He had 171 shots on goal and finished with 22 goals on the season. If he can increase that ice time, which he has so far through four games, and play on a line with Crosby, then we could see that point total increase once again. His possession time was fantastic last year, and has started off above average thus far. His CF% is 54.6 and FF% is 50.0.

Blake Comeau Stars ($2,900)

This could be a sneaky pick tonight as Comeau will join a line with Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn. That’s a pretty high-powered group to play with if you ask me. With Seguin averaging 8.3 FPPG and Benn averaging 6.3, it will be hard to keep Comeau’s numbers down. By plugging him in tonight, you will have the opportunity to spend big elsewhere, whether you want that top goalie or need the cash to stack a hot line.

NHL DFS DraftKings Snipes – Defense and Goalies

Shayne Gostisbehere Flyers ($6,000)

The Ghost is off to a pretty solid start averaging 4.6 FPPG. He has a goal and two assists on the season, but is a big part of the teams first power play unit. Even in a game they were shutout, Gostisbehere played 20 minutes and had four shots on goal. Last time the Flyers were stonewalled, they came back in their next game and put up eight goals. Eight is lofty, but I expect them to get back on top of their roller coaster ride. Roller coaster is really the best way to describe their season thus far. The Flyers goals scored by game goes 5,2,2,7,0. This offense can break out anytime. Following a shutout, they will look to come out of the gates fast.

Josh Morrissey Jets ($5,300)

The Jets are -200 favorites to beat the Oilers tonight in a Canada v. Canada match-up. Dustin Byfuglien is day-to-day which means more ice for Morrissey who has started hot. His price is slowly increasing as well as he is currently averaging 3.8 FPPG. He is yet to score a goal on the season but has a point in three of the teams first five games. He has received 24-26 shifts per game and has exceeded 25 minutes of ice time in each of the last two games.

Casey DeSmith Penguins ($7,700)

Tonight may not be a night to get cute in net. They are -230 favorites to beat a hurting Canucks team. A team without their leading goal scorer and point-getter Elias Pettersson who remains out with a concussion after a gruesome throw to the ice. With Matt Murray still out, DeSmith gets the nod once again. The heavily favored goalie strategy has not worked so well in this short season, but that trend is unlikely to keep up.
