Welcome to NHL DFS Man Advantage for Tuesday night October 16th! Tonight we have a nice  8 game slate.  Only Dallas and Minnesota, played on Monday night so we should have plenty of number 1 goaltending options to choose from, and Minnesota played their back up so we should see Dubnyk against Coyotes.

There are a few of the top scoring NHL DFS options in the league playing tonight with Crosby, Malkin, Stamkos, and McDavid all in action, as well as the suddenly goal scoring machine Kyle Palmieri. In net we should see Connor Hellebuyck, Henrik Lunqvuist, Antti Raanta, and Marc-Andre Fleury.

In todays article I will break down the top goaltenders for cash and gpp, breakdown a few of the potentially highest scoring games and then give you some of the best plays from the rest of the games.

NHL DFS Goalies

In something that doesn’t happen to often I am on both goalies from one game. Both Antti Raanta and Devan Dubnyk could have stellar games for us on Tuesday with their respective teams both being towards the bottom of the league in scoring. Much like pitchers in baseball the NHL keeps a quality start category as well and Dubnyk has had QS in 3 of his 4 starts and Raanta has 2 of 4. Both are options, but might be best suited for GPP’s as most people will be in the bigger names I will go over below.

Connor Hellebuyck is probably the top goalie on the slate with a matchup against the lowly Edmonton Oilers. In his 4 starts this season Hellebuyck has a .919 SV% and a 2.50 GAA which is around Hellebuyck’s average over his career. Edmonton has only scored 5 goals in their first three games and don’t look like a team that can get out of their own way currently.

This is more of a GPP play, but I like Henrik Lundquist against the Avalanche on Tuesday. Lunquist has been playing well for the Rangers with all 4 of his starts as QS and with a GAA of 2.03 and outstanding SV% of .938. Lunquist has a 1-3 record in his 4 starts and the Avalanche have scored 19 goals (7th best in the league) so this might scare some people off him, which makes him a perfect GPP target.

Marc-Andre Fleury has not had a great start to his season which mirrors his team’s performance to date. Flower gets the Sabres at home on Tuesday night coming off a 26 save shutout Saturday afternoon. Fleury gets a chance to redeem himself from his poor performance against the Sabres on 10/8 where he gave up 4 goals in a loss.

Lastly I like whoever starts in net for the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night as a real sleeper GPP pick against a Lightning team that had started slow to start the season until they exploded for 8 goals against Columbus on Saturday (they had score 3 goals in their previous 2 games). Both goalies have played well, but Curtis McElhinney has outplayed Petr Mrazek to start the season

NHL DFS Game Breakdowns

Florida Panthers @ Philadelphia Flyers

This is not a game most people may target but it features two teams with very potent offenses, one that has been roll (Philadelphia) and one that has been pretty flat ( Florida). For the Flyers the scoring has been spread around with 5 players scoring multiple goals already and 4 more with one each. Both Claude Giroux (6 Points) and Jakub Voracek (8 points) are on fire to start the year while line mate Sean Couturier has not (2 points). Philadelphia has gotten some great production from its 3rd line as well with Wayne Simmonds scoring 3 goals to go along with an assist and 17 SOG and Scott Laughton with 3 goals on 12 shots. Outside of the top pairing, Philly has gotten surprise production from Radko Gudas with 4 assists and 8 blocked shots and Robert Hagg with 2 goals, 1 assist, 12 SOG and 9 blocked shots.

Florida on the other hand has yet to really get going offensively. Florida has only scored 7 goals on the season and not one player has scored more than 1 goal. With that being said this is a team that is loaded with offensive power both on the front and back ends. Up front Florida has two lines that can definitely light the lamp, but I am more interested in their second line of Jonathan Huberdeau / Vincent Trochek / Denis Malgin because it gives you exposure to both power play units. Trochek has 1 goal and 2 assists and 7 sog while Huberdeau has a goal and an assist and 10 sog. On the point Keith Yandle has been the most productive player on defense with 2 assists, 12 sog, and 3 shot blocks.

Vancouver Canucks @ Pittsburgh Penguins

This game has the highest Vegas goal total at 6.5 for the night. It is not known who will be in net or either team but both teams have shown a prowess for putting the puck in the net. Pittsburgh has scored 15 goals this season in 4 games. Phil Kessel leads the team with 7 points (4 goals and 3 assists) and taken 9 shots (44.4 S%). Evgeni Malkin has 1 goal and 7 assists playing with Kessel on the Pens second line and their line mate Carl Hagelin has yet to get going with only 1 assist. Sidney Crosby has only 4 assists but line mate Jake Guentzel 3 goals on 12 shots. Coach Sullivan is changing it up a bit and play Derick Brassard with Crosby and Guentzel who has only scored 1 goal but plays on the second pp unit and would give you exposure to both units if you stack this line. On defense the Pens lost Justin Schultz and his 4 assists to a fractured leg on Saturday so it looks like Juuso Riikola is going to a chance to show what he did in the preseason wasn’t a fluke and he will get some time on the second pp unit as well. Kris Letang has been the most consistent d man for the Pens with 3 goals 3 assists on 12 shots playing an avg of 26.3 minutes per game.

For Vancouver the lost their best player this season in Elias Pettersson to a concussion and is expected to miss about a week. Vancouver has scored 19 goals this season with Sven Baertschi the current point leader (without Pettersson in the lineup) with 5 points (2 g 3 a). Playing on the first line with Baertschi is Bo Horvat and his 3 goals and 1 assist and Brock Boeser and his 2 goals and an assist. There is not other line stack I’d consider, just Jake Virtanen who has 2 goals and an assist as well. On defense the Canucks have only been getting production from Alexander Edler (5 assists and 11 shots).

Carolina Hurricanes @ Tampa Bay Lightning

Through their first 6 games only Toronto has scored more goals than the Canes. Carolina has been getting scoring from both the young future of the team and also from the “old” guard of veterans on the team as well. Sebastian Aho has been on fire starting the season with 11 points in 6 games (4 g 7 a) and Michael Ferland has been fitting in well with his new teammates after the offseason trade from Calgary to the tune of 3 goals and 3 assists and 21 sog. I can’t forget to mention Teuvo Teravainen with a goal and 5 assists to round of the Canes top line. Warren Foegele has been playing well, but has cooled off lately. Foegele has 3 goals and an assist to go along with 19 shots

Tampa finally got the offense going in a big way against the Blue Jackets on Saturday scoring 8 goals in the process, almost tripling their season total entering the game. First line center Braydon Point leads the team in goals with 3 and points with 4. Line mates Steven Stamkos has really yet to get going (only 1 assist) but he will get going soon so I will definitely keep an eye on him. On Saturday coach Cooper put the triplets line back together ( Nikita Kucherov/Tyler Johnson/Ondrej Palat) in hopes to get some offense going. They haven’t gotten hot yet, but it was only one game and I look to them possibly to light up the scoreboard on Tuesday. On defense, both Mikhail Sergachev and Brayden Coburn have 2 assists, and stud d man Victor Hedman only has 1 goal, no assists on 8 shots

NHL DFS Man Advantage 10/16

I know I only broke down 3 of the 8 games but those are games I feel will be high scoring enough because the rest either feature good goaltending on one or both sides or weak offenses.

Colorado and the Rangers is a great example where I like one goalie but his offense is terrible. Lundquist should keep the damage to a minimum against the Av’s but I don’t think he shuts them out. Nathan MacKinnon has been on a tear to start the season with 6 goals in 5 games so is a must play if you are using Colorado, as is line mat Mikko Rantanen with his 1 goal and 7 assists. If Alexandar Georgiev starts then I am all in on an Avalanche stack and maybe even consider Semyon Varlamov.

More from FanSided

Dallas and New Jersey could be another matchup I avoid because of the goalies. It looks like Kinkaid and Khudobin will start so I like the Devils a bit more, especially after Dallas’ no show against Ottawa on Monday night. The obvious first choice is Kyle Palmieri since he is on pace for 164 goals this season (2 goals a game in all three NJD games this season). I also like the value on the Devils defense in Will Butcher and Sami Vatanen

Winnipeg has a plethora of offenses options but the best of them right now is Kyle Connor and his 4 goals, 1 assist, and 17 shots. On the point Josh Morrissey has 4 assists on the season. Of course Patrik Laine is always in play but only has 2 goals on 17 shots ,so he is taking shots just not finding the net, yet.

Last spot I will give you some info is in Vegas. There is some possible value there with the Sabres and Knights. Jonathan Marchessault is not value, but he is Mr. Everything right for VGK, but for value take a look at Cody EakinHe has 2 goals in 3 games since replacing injured Paul Stasny. For Buffalo there is value in the first line with Connor Sheary (3 goals 1 assist) and Sam Reinhart (3 assists).
