All eyes will be on The Conners’ series debut ratings tonight with the original’s central lead cast member and series namesake removed and the entire reboot of a reboot teetering on the edge with many fans sharply divided. The show will likely see high numbers tonight from casuals and curious fans alike wanting to see how they handle the original lead character’s exit but the following episode ratings will decide the series’ ultimate fate.
All in the Family’s spinoff Archie Bunker’s Place originally wrote Archie’s wife Edith off the series for the season 2 premiere when actress Jean Stapleton wanted to exit the show back in 1979. Edith was then written off the series with “a stroke,” will The Conners follow a similar “character death” exit formula as has been speculated upon? Or will The Conners write off their lead matriarch through the “Netflix & Pill” episode in the season prior and say perhaps, she’s at a rehab center for her pain medication over usage in the narrative?
Probably, the most similar recent undertaking was FOX’s Lethal Weapon removing their co-lead for season 3 but even that wasn’t the show’s namesake.

It appears The Conners are attending a funeral proceedings with Dan commenting “Don’t put this on me,” in the preview trailer, so the most likely rumored exit narrative is probably accurate.
