High Salary PG

Players costing over $6,667

Chris Paul (vs NO – $9,100): Needs 38.4 fantasy points. Did you know that Elfrid Payton is the starting point guard for the Pelicans? Yes, that Elfrid Payton. Paul will always take a backseat to James Harden in the Houston offense, but Harden is going to be hounded by Jrue Holiday on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Paul gets one of the worst defensive point guards in the league. The Rockets are going to force Payton to guard Harden on switches a lot, but if that doesn’t work, they just give the ball to Paul and let him work without a screen. Paul is reliable with his numbers, even if Harden limits his ceiling on most nights. Diagnosis: Great one-on-one matchup, but possibly too costly alongside James Harden. There’s enough PG depth on Wednesday to where you shouldn’t spend big on Paul unless you’re very confident in linking him with Harden.

Kyle Lowry (vs CLE – $8,100): Needs 34.2 fantasy points. I’m not sure what we’ll be getting out of the Raptors on Wednesday. But I know that Cleveland isn’t going to be good this season and Kawhi Leonard makes Toronto better. Lowry is still going to have the ball in his hands most of the time as the point guard. Leonard will make his job easier on both ends of the court. The Raptors culture reset last year involved Lowry doing more offensively. If that carries over this year, along with Leonard’s gravity, Lowry should be in for some big nights. May as well start against Cleveland. Diagnosis: My favorite of the high salary point guards. Proven fantasy players on an excellent team against an easy matchup.

Jeff Teague (at SA – $6,800): Needs 28.7 fantasy points. I don’t love Jeff Teague, but I also don’t love whatever is going on with San Antonio’s point guard position right now. Teague played well against the Spurs last season and he’s one of the few guys on the team Jimmy Butler seems to trust and like. This is very important for when Butler freezes out his teammates. Which is going to happen in like the 2nd quarter the way things have gone in Minnesota this offseason. Teague is stable, but unspectacular. Diagnosis: A reliable option.

Quick Hits

Kemba Walker ($8,300): Can never go wrong with Kemba, but Milwaukee finally has a NBA coach and that should scare you.
