The Houston Rockets are thirsting for revenge, which means that Anthony Davis and the New Orleans Pelicans may be in for a rough night.
The Houston Rockets spent the entire offseason building a team for one purpose, and one purpose only — to defeat the Golden State Warriors in the playoffs.
The other 29 NBA franchises, to the Rockets, are just tune-ups for their new-look roster, which includes Carmelo Anthony, perennial NBA Most Cursed Player Brandon Knight, and a slew of veterans surrounding James Harden and Chris Paul, all on a quest to prove that 2017-18 should have been their year.
With that mindset, it seems like a bad time for Anthony Davis and the New Orleans Pelicans to try to prove to the NBA that their season wasn’t a fluke and that the team can still be competitive in the ultra-competitive West without DeMarcus Cousins (Warriors) and last-years’ late-season MVP Rajon Rondo (Los Angeles Lakers).
New Orleans underwent some change of their own, bringing in Elfrid Payton to replace Rondo, and snagging Julius Randle to replace Cousins. While those were some fine pieces the Pelicans picked up, this season will hinge on the play of Davis and Jrue Holiday, who mauled the Portland Trail Blazers in their surprise first-round sweep of the Blazers.
That may have to wait until after Wednesday, as the Rockets may prove to be a bit too much for the Pelicans to handle. The Rockets possessed the NBA’s best offense last season, and also showed a knack for defense as well, and Houston should be at, or near the top in both categories again in 2018-19.
