High Value C

Players costing $6,667 or under

JaVale McGee (at POR – $4,500): Needs 18.6 fantasy points. I don’t know what the Lakers are going to get out of McGee. I’m not even sure the Lakers know they are going to get out of McGee. His salary is low enough to where he might be able to hit value, but there’s also a chance he doesn’t play enough and the Lakers go super small throughout the game. Against Nurkic, that probably isn’t the wisest idea. Diagnosis: Too much of an unknown and not much upside.

Bam Adebayo (at WAS – $4,300): Needs 17.8 fantasy points. Played well (23.6 fantasy points) against the Magic. Looks like he’ll be getting more run than Olynyk, at least early in the season with James Johnson out. That’s good news for potential fantasy owners. I do worry about Miami on a back-to-back, especially after they lost to the Magic. But I also worry about the Wizards because they are the Wizards. Diagnosis: Great value at this salary.

Ian Mahinmi (vs MIA – $3,500): Needs 14.5 fantasy points. Dwight Howard is currently questionable. If he doesn’t play, Mahinmi will likely draw the start, although I don’t expect him to actually play much. Only take him if you’re conceding the center position and expect his score to be dropped. Diagnosis: No reason to take him except to waste the spot.
