Peyton Barber, Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Cleveland Browns

Last week, Peyton Barber took over for Ronald Jones as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers starting running back, and it doesn’t look like he’ll lose that gig any time soon. Barber was exceptional in comparison to Jones, averaging over 6.0 yards per carry by converting 13 rushing attempts into 82 yards against a downtrodden Atlanta Falcons defense.

Perhaps Barber benefited greatly from the soft Week 6 matchup, because he didn’t exactly shine in Week 1 with a meager 69 yards on 19 carries against the New Orleans Saints. Even if Barber hasn’t grown since that rocky display, it’s unlikely he’ll come back down to earth in Week 7.

The Browns defense is just as poor as Atlanta’s, seeing as how they are third in the NFL in total rushing yards allowed. Barber even looked like an asset in the passing game last week with a season-high four passes, as he caught the first receiving touchdown of his career. It is unlikely for Barber to be a factor in the passing game against Cleveland, but the fact that he caught double his total number of receptions coming into Week 6 bodes well for his future workload as a pass-catcher in the electric Buccaneers offense.

Cleveland had zero answers for Melvin Gordon, just as they had no answers for Marshawn Lynch a few weeks ago. This is the same defense, by the way, that made Javorius Allen look like the second coming of Marshall Faulk in the passing game in Week 5. The Browns are a ripe matchup for Barber, who could be on the rise if his 6.3 yards per carry average against Atlanta wasn’t a fluke fantasy football performance.
