NHL DFS DraftKings Snipes – Thursday October 18th, 2018

We are back with another NHL DFS DraftKings Snipes for you daily fantasy players. We at FantasyCPR will have you covered with some snipes for Wednesday night rivalry night.

Each post will provide a quick recap of players discussed in previous articles. Success is the clear goal, but it is important to understand our misses as well. See if we can find those trends that work, and areas we can improve.

Oct. 17

Evgeny Kuznetsov – Kuz finished with 1 assist and 5 shots on goal. 22+ minutes on the ice.

Nicklas Backstrom – 2 assists with 4 shots on goal and a hit. 23.5 minutes of time on the ice

Phillip Danault – We were close with Danault, and yes, I know close isn’t good enough when it comes to DFS. But hear me out. Gallagher scored tonight and Danault was the unlucky one to not be involved int he play. If he stays on a line with Gallagher and Tatar, there will be plenty of solid nights for Danault in the future.

Alex Ovechkin – Ovi did his thing scoring 2 goals on 6 shots and over 23 minutes of ice time.

Chandler Stephenson – The one member of the stack that didn’t pan out. Stephenson was moved off the 1st line for much of the game and then brought back on later. He had 2 hits and spend just north of 15 minutes on the ice.

Brad Marchand – Everyone’s favorite Bruin. Strike that! If you are a Bruins fan, he is your favorite. Fans of other teams can’t stand the guy. But there is no denying that he is gifted hockey player. Tonight he had a goal on one shot and played just over 20 minutes on the ice.

Charlie McAvoy – McAvoy did not provide much tonight with 1 hit, 3 blocks and just 1 shot on goal.

T.J. Brodie – Brodie played a good hockey game, but not necessarily a good night for us DFS players. He was a +2, which doesn’t matter on DK. Brodie took one shot and blocked one shot.

John Gibson -Gibson was the man tonight. He earned the win and only gave up one goal on 35 shots.

Carey Price – Price did just well enough in his game vs the Blues. He earned the win and made 23 saves, allowing just two to hit the twine.

NHL DFS DraftKings Snipes – Centers

Auston Matthews Leafs ($8,200)

Sidney Crosby went on record saying that Connor McDavid is the best player in the NHL. That might be true, but Matthews may have something to say about that tonight. He has been relentless in his attack against opposing goalies with a league-leading 10 goals and 16 points. He is shooting a ludicrous 45.5%, averaging 2.29 points per game. It would be crazy to assume he can keep up this pace for the entire season, but tonight he will want to prove to Crosby that maybe he is a top dog in the league. The potential of Matt Murray back in net for the Pens is slightly worrisome, but this Leafs offense looks unstoppable, lead by Matthews.

Tyler Johnson Lightning ($5,100)

For this price, Johnson might be an elite play tonight. He is reunited with stud winger Nikita Kucherov and Ondrej Palat. He is fresh off a hat trick from Tuesday night in front of his home crowd and gets an even juicier match up against the 0-4-2 Red Wings in Tampa. Johnson finished last season with 21 goals and 29 assists. The possession numbers are not great, but salvageable hovering near 50%. This could see a steady ride bringing back the powerful line of Johnson, Kucherov and Palat.

Alex DeBrincat Blackhawks ($6,400)

Hope you didn’t think we were just going to talk about the Leafs and Lightning for the article. The nickname I just came up with for DeBrincat is the Small Stature Sniper. Doubt it sticks, but he truly has one of the best releases I have seen since being brought up by the Hawks. With the re-emergence of Captain Jonathan Toews, DeBrincat has thrived. He has multiple points in three out of their five games, including back-to-back two goal performances. The crowd should be electric at home tonight with goalie Corey Crawford making his long-awaited comeback from injury, and the offense could feed off that energy. It certainly doesn’t hurt matching up against the 1-4 Coyotes, who rank 22nd against opposing left wingers

NHL DFS DraftKings Snipes – Wingers

Nikita Kucherov Lightning ($6,800)

If you plan on implementing a stack tonight, you must consider the top piece of the Triplets. Kucherov has become a star in the NHL after a steady rise in the last four seasons. He went from back to back seasons of 65 and 66 points to 85 in 2016/17 and 100 last year. He may not have exploded onto the scene yet in the current season, but it is just a matter of time before he breaks out. Reunited with Palat and Johnson should help boost his numbers as they have been near invincible as a line. Kucherov can set up his teammates or score with the best of them.

Ondrej Palat Lightning ($5,200)

Palat is the final piece of the Triplets Line. According to Taylor Beck of The Daily Caller, “Triplets line originally came together in developmental league. Cooper was then hired by the big league club, and Palat and Johnson stuck together. Cooper added Kucherov to the pair to form the triplets.” Palat has two assists since the line was re-created and has a role on the second power play unit.

Kasperi Kapanen Leafs ($5,900)

Kapanen is proving to be one of the fastest skaters in the entire league. He and Matthews together have created a type of lightning n’ thunder duo. They are a scary good pairing, and then you add in Mitch Marner who is also playing at an elite level. Kap has four goals and four assists while averaging 4.2 FPPG. Pittsburgh may be getting Matt Murray back tonight, but he could be rusty after missing time due to a concussion. In the meantime, the Pens rank 28th against opposing right wingers. Kapanen could be in for a big night.

NHL DFS DraftKings Snipes – Defense and Goalies

Dan Girardi Lightning ($3,400)

Here is a great opportunity to grab the partner of an elite defender to fill one of your defense spots. The Lightning are -300 favorites tonight, and their offense has been firing on all cylinders. Playing with offensive-minded Victor Hedman helps Girardi from a DFS viewpoint to increase his chances of accumulating points.

Drew Doughty Kings ($5,400)

Doughty has had a slow start to the season, but he is still one of the top defensive players in the NHL. His DraftKings price has steadily dropped, as he began the season at $6,000. Now part of this is match up based, but seeing him fall out of the top-10 in pricing has me interested. He gets to skate against an Islanders team on the second night of a back-to-back. Not to mention the Isles coming from the east coast all the way to the west coast for these two road games. Doughty only has two assists on the season but is always a threat to put up double-digit goals and 30+ assists in any given season. Last year, he finished with 60 points on 10 goals and 50 assists. In their first six games, Doughty is getting over 27 minutes of ice time.

Andrei Vasilevskiy Lightning ($8,500)

If you are willing to spend a hefty fee on your goalie, Vasilevskiy may be the best option. At -300 favorites as discussed earlier, they face off against a weak Red Wings squad. It remains to be seen if the heavily favored teams can dominate, as it seems like that has not been the case this season. Some teams have the issue of playing down to their competition. Hopefully that is not the case tonight for this powerful Lightning bunch.

Keith Kinkaid Devils ($7,900)

Kinkaid is up against a tough Avalanche offense led  by Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen. But he and the team in front of him have been a devilish bunch for opponents. See what I did there? Kinkaid is 4-0 on the season with a .961 SV%. That includes shut outs against the Capitals and Stars. At this point, there doesn’t seem to be a team in the league that Kinkaid won’t confidently face. Let’s see if Kinkaid can keep that 8.0 FPPG number rolling at home against the Avs.
