The Oregon Ducks and the Washington State Cougars both are looking to establish dominance in the Pac-12 North as they battle this weekend.

For the first time ever, College Gameday will be in Pullman as the No. 25 Cougars are set to host the No. 12 Oregon Ducks. This is a game that could have playoff implications if either of these teams wins out, claim their division, and win their conference. It could make for some tough decisions for the playoff committee. Currently, Washington State and Oregon have identical records and neither is at the top of the Pac-12 North, but both control their own destiny.

The Oregon Ducks did a great job of upsetting the Washington Huskies and they’ve been impressive throughout the year. The first season of the Mario Cristobal era in Eugene has been defined by a potent offense and a rather stout defense.

Unlike years past, this Oregon team isn’t simply relying upon the strength of its offense to win games. Instead, both the offense and defense have been similarly impressive this year. The Ducks are gaining 482.8 yards of total offense per game and they are led by quarterback Justin Herbert. On defense, Oregon is holding its foes to 365 yards per game.

As it just so happens, Washington State also isn’t a slouch in either offense or defense. The Cougs are averaging 487.7 yards per game thanks in large part to quarterback Gardner Minshew’s 2,422 yards passing and 19 touchdowns already. On the other side of the ball, Mike Leach’s team limits opponents to 311.2 yards per game.
