NHL DFS DraftKings Snipes – Friday October 19th, 2018

We are back with another NHL DFS DraftKings Snipes for you daily fantasy players. We at FantasyCPR will have you covered with some snipes for Friday night hockey.

Each post will provide a quick recap of players discussed in previous articles. Success is the clear goal, but it is important to understand our misses as well. See if we can find those trends that work, and areas we can improve.

A few quick notes on all of last nights action for you! Kinkaid was unable to slow down the Avs as Gabriel Landeskog posted a hat trick, Nathan MacKinnon had three assists and Mikko Rantanen finished with a goal and three assists. The Leafs were held scoreless for the first time this season as Matt Murray returned for the Pens in a big way. The return of two other goalies did not go quite as well as Corey Crawford and Jonathan Quick both lost at home. The Sharks downed the Sabres led by Logan Couture and his hat trick. David Pastrnak produced another goal in a losing effort to the Oilers as Kailer Yamamoto scored his first career goal, Connor McDavid finished with two assists. The Jets stayed hot and rolled over the Canucks 4-1 as Dustin Byfuglien had a goal and two assists, Bryan Little had a goal and an assist, and sniper extraordinaire Patrik Laine scored a goal.

Below is a recap of Thursday’s DraftKings Snipes action that we talked about.

Oct. 18

Auston Matthews – Held scoreless for first time this season. 3 shots on goal.

Tyler Johnson – 4 shots on goal. Tied for the team lead with 22 shifts. 18:25 time on ice.

Alex DeBrincat – 1 assist with 3 shots on goal. 2:42 power play time on ice.

Nikita Kucherov – 1 assist and 2 shots on net. 4:10 power play time on ice.

Ondrej Palat – 1 assist. Led team in power play time 4:27.

Kasperi Kapanen – Very quiet game as the Pens stifled the Leafs 3-0.

Dan Girardi – 2 shots on goal and 2 blocked shots.

Drew Doughty – 2 assists and 23:54 time on ice.

Andrei Vasilevskiy – Earned the win with 29 saves on 30 shots.

Keith Kinkaid – Started solid and fell apart in 2nd and 3rd. Surrendered 4 goals. 29 saves.

NHL DFS DraftKings Snipes – Centers

Tyler Seguin Stars ($7,500)

With the extremely hot start by the Evgeny Kuznetsov on the Caps, Seguin may not be as chalky as he should be. He has done well setting up his teammates thus far, but we know the goals are going to start pouring in soon. Seguin is averaging 7.4 FPPG with only three goals on the season. As the heaviest favorites tonight, I’m looking for Seguin to put on a show at home against the Wild.

Jason Spezza Stars ($4,100)

The cheaper Stars center for tonight. I would not recommend starting both Seguin and Spezza. However, if you are fading Seguin, Spezza could be a nice pivot. Once again, the Stars are the most favored team to win tonight, and Spezza gets 62.5% offensive zone starts. Maybe you can fit that Ovi and Kuznetsov stack if you decide to roster Spezza. He was a reliable scorer earlier in his career, and is only three years removed from a 33 goal season and two seasons removed from a 35 assist season.

Aleksander Barkov Panthers ($6,200)

I don’t love the idea of picking a guy against the Caps. Barkov centers an impressive line of Evgeni Dadonov and Nick Bjugstad. He had his best season by far last year finishing with 27 goals and 51 assists, beating his career high 59 points by 19. The Panthers have only played in four games of the short season, and Barkov has two goals and an assist. He plays on the first power play unit with Vincent Trochek and Dadonov, and proved to be effective in that spot last year with five PP goals and 12 PP assists. It is a tough match up tonight, but if the Panthers are going to get points, Barkov should have something to do with it.

Others to consider: Ryan Johansen ($5,000), Nicklas Backstrom ($6,000)

NHL DFS DraftKings Snipes – Wingers

Alexander Radulov Stars ($6,300)

Radulov had a five-game point streak going until Tuesday’s shut out. He has been off to a sizzling start with four goals and six assists. What stands out the most though, is his power-play usage which consists of a team leading average of 3:53. He is on the first power-play line with Seguin and Jamie Benn which makes for an extremely dangerous trio. If you are planning to roster Seguin, make sure to pair him with Radulov for a small stack.

Jakub Vrana Capitals ($4,600)

On a small slate, you need to find ways to differentiate from opponents. You can still have exposure to Caps, but an interesting move tonight would be to go with lesser owned line-mates. Vrana plays alongside super-setup-man Nicklas Backstrom and T.J. Oshie. He hasn’t produced much yet this season, but could break out in this line. The Panthers currently rank 30th against opposing left wingers.

Matthew Tkachuk Flames ($5,300)

How soon we forget the “older” brother Tkachuk. Quotes because he’s still only 20. He is ACTUALLY the older brother though. With Brady Tkachuk out with an ankle or a knee or whatever the real deal is, Matthew has been putting up great numbers. On Wednesday, he had a goal and an assist against a strong Bruins squad, and let’s not forget kicking off the season with a four-assist night. He is a bruiser with offensive skills, which makes for a dangerous combination.

In each of his first two seasons in the NHL, Tkachuk has put up just south of 50 points with 48 and 49. In six games this year, he already has nine points with two goals and seven assists. His possession numbers remain off the chart with a CF% and FF% 65.0+.

Others to consider: Johnny Gaudreau ($6,500), Viktor Arvidsson ($6,000)

NHL DFS DraftKings Snipes – Defense and Goalies

John Klingberg Stars ($5,700)

Klingberg had a rare three game goal streak going until Tuesday’s loss to the Devils. He also has recorded a point in four of their first five games. So far this season, Klingberg is getting a ton of exposure on the power play which is why I like adding him to the Dallas stack tonight. His CF% remains high at 53.3%, but the offensive zone starts are not quite where we would like to see them yet. He leads the team in ice time at 25:38 per game including an average of 3:30 on the power play.

Dmitry Orlov Capitals ($3,800)

Here is another small slate flyer as Orlov is cheap, and is paired with arguably one of the NHL’s top defenseman currently in John Carlson. It has been a quiet start to his season with just one assist to his name. However, he has proven the last three years that he can get some points. The last three seasons, Orlov has 29, 33, and 31 points including 10 goals in their Stanley Cup winning season last year. That low price may allow you the chance to fit some of the elite scorers such as Alex Ovechkin, Kuznetsov, or Seguin into your lineup.

Others to consider: Ryan Suter ($5,100), Aaron Ekblad ($4,000)

Ben Bishop Stars ($8,000)

The Stars come in as the heaviest favorites tonight at -160. They are on their home ice against the 2-2-2 Minnesota Wild whose leading scorer has three goals on the entire season. Holtby on the Caps may get the most usage tonight as the top priced goalie against a Panthers team that is yet to win in regulation. In a small slate, it is absolutely pertinent to have a goalie that gets you a win. Nothing in hockey is certain, but VegasInsider seems to like Dallas’ chances in this match-up. Bishop is 2-2 with a 2.56 GAA and a shutout. He’s netting 5.3 FPPG (maybe netting isn’t the best word to use for a goalie).

Others to consider: Braden Holtby ($8,400)
