DraftKings Late CFB picks October 20: Use the UConn value plays
There are again seven games in the late DraftKings tournament. There are some really good matchups here, and then are blowout specials in CUSA. Are those players worth paying for?

The late lineups last week did pretty well thanks to stacking Adrian Martinez and JD Spielman. Is that a duo that can do that, even in a losing effort, again tonight?
The scoring for NCAA football is much the same as it is for the NFL with one notable exception: the super flex! That means aside from the flex position which is RB/WR, you can add another player from any position! Want four running backs? Go right ahead! Five wide receivers? Sure! Two quarterbacks? Of course! Just stay under the salary cap! There is also late swap, which is essential for contests with start times spanning several hours.

Top Tier:
Dwayne Haskins ($10,500): Haskins has back to back 400 yard passing games. A third is pretty much assured against Purdue. We have seen several quarterbacks take apart the Boilermakers this year. The only way that this might be different is if Ohio State gets a big lead and runs it out. That is not a given this year. The Purdue offense is pretty good. The closer Purdue stays, the bigger the game Haskins will have.
McKenzie Milton ($10,300): Milton has back to back games of under 20 DraftKings points. The slog in Memphis was a big part of last week, but that SMU game worries me. ECU got thumped by Temple and covered by a Houston team that just isn’t covering people this year. The Pirates defense has a lot of issues. If Milton is going to get back on track, it’s here.
Middle Tier:
Gardner Minshew ($9,700): As has become the norm in Mike Leach offenses, the quarterback is putting up massive numbers. The receivers are harder to pick because there are so many that get work, but one thing is certain. The quarterback is going to have a big game. Minshew is the most sure thing of the higher priced quarterbacks because this game promises to stay close. Another 400+ yard game from Minshew is a given. It’s the touchdown passes that are a bit of a question mark.
Blake Barnett ($9,100): Many are going to be scared off of Barnett because of a subpar game against Tulsa. I’m not. UConn’s defense is among the worst at any college football level. The Huskies have allowed 336 passing yards per game and 322 rushing yards per game. If you’re keeping track at home, that’s an average of 658 total yards off offense per game. Barnett gets a handful of rushes per game, and he has been seeing quite a few pass attempts as well. The price is a tough one to swallow based on game log, but they haven’t played a defense near this bad.
Bargain Shoppers:
Holton Ahlers ($5,400): UCF’s defense has a lot of holes, and Memphis was able to expose some of them. I don’t think ECU is capable of winning this game, but Ahlers should be trying to play keep up enough to get a lot of pass attempts. Former starter Reid Herring is still likely to get some snaps, but I see Ahlers playing most of the game. He has good potential for the price.
David Pindell ($5,000): South Florida’s bugaboo is their run defense, but Pindell has some designed runs too. The Huskies have played from behind all season long, so Pindell has put up some decent numbers this year. I don’t see a huge game passing from him, but the rushing potential gives him a pretty solid floor for someone this cheap.
Top Tier:
Jordan Cronkrite ($9,200): Connecticut has allowed so many rushing yards per game that Cronkrite is a must play. He is the biggest lock of the season right here. Play him and fill in the rest later. Cronkrite ran for 302 on UMass. He could get very close, or even top that, tonight.
Benny Snell ($8,100): A&M was determined not to let Snell beat them, and they were successful in that right. Snell was held under 100 total yards in that game for the first time this year. Vandy is allowing 183 rush yards per game, so Snell should get back closer to his normal production in this game. That said, A&M gave you a blueprint to beat this team if you have the personnel to do it. Vandy might.
Middle Tier:
CJ Verdell ($7,600): The freshman has become a rather large part of the Oregon offense over the last couple of weeks. He isn’t your traditional Oregon back in that he isn’t just a track star in pads. He’s fast, but there is substance here too. Verdell ran through the Washington front. Wazzu’s may be a little better, but probably not enough to keep Verdell under 100 yards.
D.J. Knox ($6,200): There is actually quite a bit to like with Knox here. Muhammad Ibrahim hit triple digits on the Buckeye defense last week. Purdue has enough weapons on offense to keep defenses off balanced now. That has helped Knox to a really good season so far. Expect it to continue here, at what should be pretty low ownership.
Bargain Shoppers:
KeShawn Vaughn ($5,000): Vaughn was having a good day against the Gators, and Vandy was en route to the upset before Vaughn left the game with an injury. After that, the Commodores just didn’t have the firepower to stave off the Gators for the upset. Vaughn is regarded as fine heading into this game. If Vandy is going to score this upset, they are going to need another big game from Vaughn.
Zavier Scott ($3,900): I love the fact that Connecticut players are priced like they are facing a stud defense. They aren’t. The UConn offense isn’t great, but they are a decent unit, far better than DraftKings is giving them credit for with this pricing. There is some value to be had with UConn starters.
Top Tier:
Rondale Moore ($8,300): Moore may be the most dangerous receiver in college, but I totally understand if you aren’t comfortable paying up for someone against Ohio State. I’m not entirely sure I am. I will say this though: Moore gets his against everyone. He is such an elite athlete that Purdue will get him touches any way they can. That gives him a pretty high floor under any circumstances.
Easop Winston ($8,200): Winston has caught four or more passes in each of the last four games, and has been over 99 yards in all of the last three. Winston has emerged as the favorite receiver of Minshew. They are going to need him to pull the upset of Oregon. With Gameday (finally) in town, this is going to be a wild one in Pullman. I expect a big game from Winston here.

Middle Tier:
Parris Campbell ($6,900): Campbell is going to have a lot of room to run in the shoddy Purdue secondary. We saw Missouri carve them up with YAC yardage earlier this year, and they aren’t the only ones to do so. Purdue is allowing 268 passing yards per game this season. Ohio State is going to get well over that, and there is a good chance that Campbell has at least 40% of the Buckeye receiving yardage. KJ Hill may have the rest after his monster game against Minnesota.
Tyre McCants ($6,700): McCants is the leading receiver for South Florida, which immediately puts him in play against UConn. There are going to be plenty of yards to go around in this one. McCants is going to get his share.
Trevon Brown ($6,400): Brown is a bit of a risk with the quarterback situation kind of in flux for the Pirates, but I’ll set your mind at ease. Brown was targeted a staggering 20 times against Houston. He is the favorite of whoever is under center. Brown can be played with confidence.
Bargain Shoppers:
Dezmon Patmon ($4,800): Patmon only caught one pass against Oregon State, but he caught at least four in every game up until that one. I would tend to say that game was on outlier. It’s going to be all hands on deck to dump the Ducks in Pullman this week. Expect Patmon to be a pretty big part of the offense again this week.
Aaron McLean ($4,300): McLean’s low mark on the season is 9.2 DraftKings points against Central Florida in the opener. UConn plays almost exclusively from behind, so their quarterback and top receiver are very safe DFS plays.
