5 candidates to replace to Julen Lopetegui at Real Madrid
Guti Hernandez
This would be a Zidane-esque hire from Florentino Perez. The former Madrid midfielder is a legend among the fans and players, having played over 500 games for the club between 1995 and 2010.
As current assistant manager at Bestikas, Guti would be a much more realistic target for Florentino Perez than Pochettino and, as a former vice captain of the club, would likely provide the same “hand clapping” coaching style that proved so successful for Zidane. The issue with Guti is that he is an unknown quality Guti’s only coaching experience so far has been a two year stint in charge of Real Madrid’s Juvenil A ( Under-19s) and his short time as assistant coach for Bestikas.
Taking the reigns of Real Madrid mid-crisis and steadying the ship isn’t an easy ask for even the most experienced managers, so expecting Guti to do just that in his first senior management job seems like a very big gamble.
