5 candidates to replace to Julen Lopetegui at Real Madrid
Santiago Solari
If things get really desperate and all other managerial candidates mysteriously disappear, the club could turn to current Castilla coach, Santiago Solari.
Solari would be another Zidane-like selection, with the former Madrid winger currently managing Real Madrid’s B team. The problem with Solari is that aside from eight games to start this season, he’s repeatedly demonstrated that he’s bad at coaching professional clubs. He has mismanaged a number of promising prospects in Castilla by either playing them out of position or by not playing them at all. Last season, he had Castilla scrapping a relegation battle and though he has started the new season well, with Castilla sitting top of the Segunda B, the evidence we have suggests Solari is not cut out for top level coaching and certainly not the man who you want to take over Real Madrid in crisis.
Honorable mentions: Alaves’s Aberlado Fernandez, Sevilla’s Pablo Machin and (weirdly) Arsene Wenger, who has recently emerged as a favorite for the job. A big week awaits in the Spanish capital.
