Is The Good Doctor new tonight, October 22? Fans of ABC‘s hit medical drama may be asking that question on Monday, wondering if they’ll be able to catch a fresh episode of the Freddie Highmore series.

But TV fans looking for Dr. Shaun Murphy will have to take a number. ABC has pulled The Good Doctor off its schedule this week, so that it can use the show’s time slot to air a repeat of the pilot for its new cop drama The Rookie.

Presumably, the thinking is that the Nathan Fillion show can use the promotional bump not only from Dancing with the Stars, but draw upon the audience that would normally be tuning in at 10 p.m. to watch Shaun and the rest of the staff at St. Bonaventure.

It’s a bold move for ABC to pull one of its most popular shows off the air for a week to promote a new series, but luckily, it’s only temporary. There will be a new episode of The Good Doctor next Monday, Oct. 29 in the show’s regular time slot.

That episode is worth waiting for, too, because the guest stars include Lisa Edelstein (House), Reiko Aylesworth (24, Hawaii Five-0) and Richard Schiff’s real-life wife Sheila Kelley. That’s a lot of talent on top of the show’s already impressive cast.

So while it’s not great that the hospital is closed this Monday, at least it’s not for long and what’s up next will be very interesting. The doctors are out now, but they’ll be back soon enough.
