Whose seat in the NHL is starting to heat up? Right now, there aren’t any seats hotter than the ones under Mike Yeo, the Los Angeles Kings, and Ken Holland.

It’s still extremely early in the 2018-19 NHL season, which means it’s not yet time to start panicking for most teams. However, in today’s “win now” league, results are demanded. There are already numerous people not getting those desired results.

Seats can go from ice cold to scoring hot in a matter of weeks. The reverse is true too. Let’s look at who has the hottest seats in the league, and if they can do anything about it.

Ice Cold: William Nylander

Nylander has the misfortune of being the guinea pig of Kyle Dubas and the Toronto Maple Leafs. Keeping all of their stars is going to be very difficult to do. And with Mitch Marner and Auston Matthews soaring to start the season, it looks like Nylander’s going to be the guy stuck with the short end of the straw.

He still has over a month before the Dec. 1 deadline for unsigned restricted free agents to sign. But the clock is ticking. And, as Dec. 1 draws near, the temperature on his gluteus maximus is only going to get hotter.

Cold: Rick Tocchet

Stop me if you’ve heard this one – the Arizona Coyotes are off to a very slow start to their season after a busy offseason. A lot of this has to do with horrible shooting luck. But, considering this has been a trend, happening twice in two years, maybe the Coyotes need to take a look at the guy behind the bench – head coach Rick Tocchet.

It’s worth noting he’s been making some baffling lineup decisions. Remember that time Tocchet decided to give Max Domi a chance at center last season and then proceeded to give him Zac Rinaldo as a wing?

The Coyotes have been stuck in mediocrity for a while. On paper, this team should be a lot better than their 2-5-0 record entering Monday, Oct. 22. Usually, when a team is consistently underachieving, there’s a bad coach.
