NFL quarterback rankings, Week 8: Mitchell Trubisky must improve
Jeff Garcia Division
16. Joe Flacco (LW: 18)
Flacco could have had the Ravens’ signature win of 2018 on Sunday, if not for Justin Tucker becoming mortal at the wrong moment. So far, Flacco has been solid for Baltimore, notching 2,067 yards and 11 touchdowns against four interceptions. The yardage total is actually fifth0-best in football, although the YPA of 6.82 ranks 30th.
15. Matthew Stafford (LW: 15)
Stafford has helped the Lions rediscover the playoff picture, and he’s finally getting some help on the ground with Kerryon Johnson taking over in the backfield. The last time Detroit had a player rush for 1,000 yards? Reggie Bush. Yeah, it’s been awhile since Stafford hasn’t had to do everything by himself.
14. Deshaun Watson (LW: 13)
Watson is basically playing with half of his body mangled, to the point that he can’t fly because it’s dangerous for his ribs and bruised lung. Still, the Texans have won four straight and Watson is at the heart of that success, overcoming seven interceptions with 1,937 yards on 8.04 YPA.
13. Cam Newton (LW: 14)
Newton led the Panthers to perhaps the franchise’s greatest comeback victory on Sunday, beating the Eagles in their building with 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter. Newton is managing the game though the air with 1,427 yards and 6.83 YPA (29th in the NFL) but he does enough with his feet and arm to have Carolina in contention.
