Alabama Football: Meet Tua Tagovailoa’s All-Star supporting cast
By Ethan Lee
It’s time that the country familiarized itself with the wide receivers and tight ends surrounding Tua Tagovailoa. Get to know the group helping Alabama’s star quarterback tear opposing defenses apart.
Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa has caught the attention of the SEC and the country by tearing through defenses at an incredible rate. The sophomore quarterback has quickly become a star after bringing Alabama back against Georgia to win a national title a season ago. This year, Tagovailoa is continuing to play efficiently and explosively, making few mistakes and scoring tons of touchdowns.
But, he’s not able to do all of this by himself.
Through the first eight games of Alabama’s season, Tagovailoa has thrown for 2066 yards and 25 touchdowns all while completing 70.4 percent of his passes. Oh, and it’s important to note that he hasn’t thrown a single interception all season. However, even though he’s the focal point of the conversation about Alabama’s offense (he is the guy making it run so effectively), Tagovailoa can’t do this by himself.
There is a literal need for a quarterback to have wide receivers and tight ends. It’s the way that the game tends to work. The guy throwing the ball needs someone to catch it. Tagovailoa is a transcendent talent at quarterback and he’s surrounded with truly great wide receivers and tight ends.
It’s a dangerous thing for opponents if a quarterback as good as Tua Tagovailoa has extremely talented receivers to get the ball to, and that’s what’s happening in Tuscaloosa right now.
Nobody is surprised by the fact that Nick Saban has been able to stockpile absurd amounts of talent. Everyone in the world of college football is familiar with the fact that Saban routinely signs the best recruiting classes on an annual basis. That has led to the point where we are right now where Tua Tagovailoa, a great quarterback, has guys like Jerry Jeudy, Henry Ruggs III, Irv Smith Jr., Jaylen Waddle, and DeVonte Smith around him.
Alabama’s offense took a step forward when Tagovailoa grabbed hold of the reins of the offense. He’s been able to make these already great receiving options even better. Now, it’s just time for the country to get to know who these players are.
