Jamaal Charles is probably hanging it up: is he a Hall of Famer?
After getting released from the Jacksonville Jaguars this week, running back Jamaal Charles stated on Instagram that he may be hanging up his cleats.
At 31 years old, Jamaal Charles appears ready to retire.
The three-time All-pro and four-time Pro Bowl running back posted on Instagram that the Jaguars jersey was perhaps the last time he will wear an NFL uniform. Charles played in his last game this past Sunday, getting only one carry for two yards. He will finish his stint with the Jags with six carries for seven yards.
Old age and injuries have slowed down Charles from being considered statistically one of the greatest running backs of all time. Charles, along with Jim Brown and Barry Sanders, is one of three men to register five seasons with 1,000 yards along with 5.0 yards per carry. But since tearing his ACL in the 2015 NFL season, Charles has been on a decline while playing for three different teams (Kansas City Chiefs, Denver Broncos and Jaguars) during the time.
But, there will be many out there who think Charles has done enough to warrant Pro Football Hall of Fame consideration. Charles rushed for 7,563 yards and 44 touchdowns in his career despite largely playing with nobody of note. Per Pro Football Talk, Charles is the NFL’s all-time leader in one key stat that will definitely put him in the discussion.

What will help aid Charles for Hall of Fame consideration, too, is that in his seven seasons that he played in at least 14 games, Charles rushed for at least 1,000 yards on five occasions. Maybe, hopefully, Charles has done enough in his career to get his just due.
