Jon Gruden is starting to lose his own locker room

After yet another trade, Raiders coach Jon Gruden is now starting to lose the trust of his own players.

Things were already bad enough for Jon Gruden’s Oakland Raiders.

Before the season even started, Gruden traded away Khalil Mack, arguably the best defensive player in the NFL, and received enormous amounts of criticism for it. Since then, Gruden — in the first year of his brand new 10-year contract the Raiders gave him — has coached this team to a miserable 1-5 record thus far.

The most recent deal Gruden made, however, was sending wide receiver Amari Cooper to the Dallas Cowboys, something that hasn’t seemed to sit right with several of Gruden’s players. So, as if Gruden wasn’t already in enough hot water as it was, now he’s even starting to lose the trust of the guys in his own locker room as well.

Just when we thought the situation in Oakland couldn’t get any worse, it amazingly continues to get worse.

According to ESPN, several Raiders players spoke anonymously to The Athletic to voice some of their concerns — the biggest one being that at the rate Gruden is going, it might not be long before he trades them as well. Many of them are looking at their career in Oakland basically on a week-to-week basis, because who knows who will be next on Gruden’s list of players he’s willing to trade away?

It’s no secret that Gruden has turned the Raiders into an utter disaster. The organization hired him to get them back on track after last year’s disappointing 6-10 campaign, and they obviously had great faith that he could do it thanks to the fact that they signed him to a 10-year, $100 million deal.

On the other hand, many outside observers knew going into it that the results weren’t going to be pretty. But could anyone have predicted that it was going to be THIS bad? Even Gruden’s players don’t trust him anymore, and it’s hard to imagine him digging himself — or this team — out of this enormous hole.
