Dolphins trade Cordea Tankersley to Lions

One of the strangest sophomore slumps in recent years has been the case of Cordrea Tankersley. A former third-round pick by Miami, Tankersley was one of the better man corners in 2017, actually outperforming teammate Xavien Howard considerably.

But struggles in pattern-match assignments and a preseason where he mentally looked lost led to a surprising benching. He’s played only 29 defensive snaps this year while Torry McTyer has been handed 191 snaps.

It’s strange considering Miami could use the outside corner help, but he may just need a fresh start. He has all of the physical tools you’d want from a big corner, and could immediately be a third-corner for the Detroit Lions.

The Lions have relied on Nevin Lawson too long, and former second-round pick Teez Tabor has been as disappointing as his combine predicted he’d be. This team needs a long-term solution at corner, and their Cover 4 and man-heavy defense would be a great fit for Tankersley.

A fresh start for Tankersley may cost only a fourth-round pick since he’s not a special teams star. A handful of other teams, including Seattle, Oakland, Denver, Arizona, Pittsburgh, Houston, and Kansas City would also make a ton of sense.
